⭐This book is not an introduction to Mann. The essayists are writing on a scholarly level and expect their readers to be already familiar with Mann’s novels, shorter works, as well as some essays. Even for Mann enthusiasts, some passages require a second deeper reading. [Or a third.]

⭐A few highly academic and opaque essays, but mostly useful critiques. The essay on translations is excellent.

⭐I really enjoy everything the editor writes and in this case compiles. Very well-organized volume, includes essays on each of the major works (among other things). Great essay in here on Doctor Faustus. All of the essays are of the highest quality.
