Description

The Heidegger Dictionary is a comprehensive and accessible guide to the world of Martin Heidegger, arguably the most important and influential European thinker of the twentieth century. Meticulously researched and extensively cross-referenced, this unique book covers all his major works, ideas and influences and provides a firm grounding in the central themes of Heidegger’s thought. Students will discover a wealth of useful information, analysis and criticism. A-Z entries include clear definitions of all the key terms used in Heidegger’s writings and detailed synopses of his key works. The Dictionary also includes entries on Heidegger’s major philosophical influences, including Plato and Aristotle, Kant and Hegel, Schelling and Nietzsche, and Scheler and Husserl. It covers everything that is essential to a sound understanding of Heidegger’s philosophy, offering clear explanations of often complex terminology. The Heidegger Dictionary is the ideal resource for anyone reading or studying Heidegger or Modern European Philosophy more generally.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Very clearly written though I found the entry on “historical being “ opaque. 99% of entries very lucid.

⭐Very useful to help with some of the complex vocabulary that Heidegger coins. Be warned though that using this may become a crutch and the original ‘plain’ or ‘common sense’ meaning of a word like presence or event may be lost.I used it to help me through Being and Time and later Heidegger works like On Time and Being for the sake of completing an undergraduate philosophy thesis on Heidegger.

⭐Very helpful for a current philosophy undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate. You’ll enjoy this text for a lifetime of enjoyment!!

⭐Great seller! The content was what I expected.

⭐My hope was that I could use this on Kindle and delve into as needed when reading books by or about Heidegger which is presumably the primary intended use of the book. The content of the book looks very helpful.Unfortunately, the book’s current Kindle formatting makes that sort of usage very difficult. The table of contents breaks down no further than A-Z with the results that the reader has to guess where along the Kindle numbers their desired entry might be and then search and further refine. The annoyance is further compounded when the reader realizes that the listing for Dasein is to be found under Being-There.Obviously, the choice of format is the more expensive paperback. The publisher badly needs to pay out just a wee bit more for the electronic formatting of what looks to be an otherwise very useful book.In re my rating- I refuse to down rate a book because the publisher made some bad choices.

⭐It does not explain the terms in accessible prose but just references where the terms are used…
