Description

The Mechanics and Thermodynamics of Continua presents a unified treatment of continuum mechanics and thermodynamics that emphasises the universal status of the basic balances and the entropy imbalance. These laws are viewed as fundamental building blocks on which to frame theories of material behaviour. As a valuable reference source, this book presents a detailed and complete treatment of continuum mechanics and thermodynamics for graduates and advanced undergraduates in engineering, physics and mathematics. The chapters on plasticity discuss the standard isotropic theories and, in addition, crystal plasticity and gradient plasticity.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Covers most fundamentals of continuum mechanics which is key to FEM, FVM et al. I suggest it can be used as a textbook of graduate level classes. This book covers all contents in previous book (Gurtin 1981) with extension to thermodynamics and entropy/free energy imbalance analysis. Good price compared to previous book too (100 vs. 120-180 of Gurtin 1981, less than 300 pages). Strongly recommend it. I would be happy to listen to your comments.

⭐the content is excellent and challenging, but the print quality and the paper is not good.

⭐The book I received was advertized as new. However, the book had scratches on the back cover. The corners of the cover are dented, and there is indelible black mark on the bottom of pages of the book when looking at the book closed.Overall the price was good, the packaging was fine, but the quality was not for a new book.

⭐perfect book and service

⭐Good book!

⭐This book provides a thorough and concise treatment on continuum mechanics and thermodynamics. It can either be used for a theoretical development on the subject and also as a complete reference book for those who want the right equation for a specific problem or phenomena. Therefore it fits well both for theoretical engineers, mathematicians and practical engineers.

⭐Ottimo libro come da descrizione!
