The Tomes of Delphi: Algorithms and Data StructuresMore Detail The Tomes of Delphi: Algorithms and Data Structures By Julian BucknallPaperback: $28.57Ships in 3–5 business days* * * * – (16 Ratings)Master developer Julian M Bucknall provides Delphi developers a comprehensive overview of using algorithms and data structures from a practical perspective. He begins with a discussion of algorithm performance, and provides comprehensive coverage of such topics as arrays, linked lists, and binary trees. The book focuses on search algorithms–such as sequential and binary search–and sort algorithms–including bubble, insertion, Shell, quicksort, merge sort, and heapsort–along with techniques for optimization. Additionally, the author presents hashing and hash tables; priority queues, state machines and regular expressions; and data compression techniques such as Huffman and LZ77.

    User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐A great book for programmers if you want to learn some tried and true algorithms.

⭐This book treats well known subjects in entirely new ways. An excellent demonstration of the power of creating common programming structures as classes.

⭐I’ve read many books on data structures and this is my absolute favorite. He walks you though the simplest to the most advanced step-by-step. Also a great book to read and work through the actual data structures in preparation for interviews. If you sit down and work through the data structures in this book, namely hashtable/hashing, trees (all of them), searching & sorting algorithms, write the data structures yourself (in a language of your choice) you will have a better understanding of data structure fundamentals than your peers.Although I personally like Delphi & Pascal, if you don’t have a history with Delphi/Pascal that will be your biggest dislike of the book, but try to look past that and focus on learning. The concepts (and even the code) is very transferable to more trendy languages like C#, JavaScript, java, etc…

⭐The best thing about this ebook version is it’s honesty. The author honestly tells us that the point of the reprint is to take advantage of Amazon eBook sales. That said, for new programmers who need an algorithm lesson there are better books. For new Delphi programmers using the new XE-series versions, the book is full of anachronistic and out-dated Delphi knowledge that will be hard for the new Delphi programmer to digest. And for experienced legacy Delphi programmers, there are only a handful of Delphi gems that are useful – unless you are using Delphi 4 or 5 in a ‘frozen’ development environment the best practices recommended here are weak at best and disheartening at worst. Since this is a Delphi-oriented algorithm book I expect a more relevant Delphi focus. While I have great respect for the author and the component company he currently is employed with I cannot in good conscience recommend this book to anyone. Honeestly, I await the revised edition that is updated for at least Delphi 7 (optimally Delphi XE2).Michael Hassler, PresidentLTA Systems, Inc.

⭐Un buen libro para profundizar en detalles sobre implementar soluciones más eficientes que se pueden aplicar a Pascal en general
