⭐Dover books are typically designed to last and this is no exception. Much of the work behind Theory of Flight came before World War II, materials and technology substantially advanced since then. However, the detail and depth of understanding offered by this book is definitely worthy of consideration. One may read it without plunging into the calculus but to really understand it, if you aren’t fresh (in a year’s calculus) bring a college calc text for company. That said, the scope of this book is relevant for modern subsonic airplane engineering and design. Upcoming drone or UAV model builders can gain insight for practical application from this book but should be aware of its limitations in the lower Reynold’s number or slower speed and smaller aircraft specialization.

⭐Who forgot our old pioneers in aeronautical engineering who sets standards by which others are judged and continue to develop and learn. The reading of this book is a real engineering enjoyment and experience which foster our modern knowhow. The chapters in propeller design is very interesting and explains how the BEM theory has been developed from the scratch…. and many othersMy gratitude and appreciation to all those pioneers and leaders men and women of the industry who Grant us our present careers, our pride, livelihood and technology that we are enjoying today….

⭐A fairly modern, fairly comprehensive, look at the basic foundations of flight. Von Mises uses mathematics sparingly, although a knowledge of calculus is necessary to get the most out of the descriptions. As a result the book is suitable for use outside the classroom by a sufficently motivated student and an interesting read even for the people who tend to skip over the formulas. The author starts with the theory of air and how its properties change as altitude increases and proceeds through to advanced aeronautics. Not a beginners book by any means, but still a good introduction to the subject of subsonic aerodynamics.

⭐Aged quite a bit on the shelf, but spine is strong and pages are legible. Contains a heap of information for being written in 1945.

    ⭐A must-have about flight theory

⭐If you were looking for something in one specific topic this is not the book for you. But it was great for my aerodynamics class.

⭐This book includes just about everything you ever wanted to know about subsonic flight. It is written by the Richard von Mises, the younger brother of Ludwig von Mises. Professional aeronautical engineers and homebuilders alike should add this gem to their library.

    ⭐AAAA

⭐Written in the pre-revolutionary era of the jet engine, where compressibility was not so much a factor as today, Von Mises work stands alone as a well balanced introduction to aeronautical engineering problems.Serious engineering students ‘always’ gravitate to the history of their subject the more clearly to understand how we arrived at the state of 21st century aerodynamics.Interestingly this text book (pp 539-545) revisits Lanchester’s Phugoid Theory – something being parenthetically discussed today in light of the ‘Boeing 737-Max’ crashes – where von Mises mentions that the term phugoid originates in a linguistic slip. Nice to see that the great man was also a scholar of the ancient Greek language!A ‘must’ reference work for your Aerospace Engineering bookshelf.

⭐The foundation of the work in the book is Pre-Supersonic era and the mathematics/science is to the American standards, which has to be taken into account for the British engineer, like myself. A bit of conversion required to get your head round the American system, but on the whole good research with which most of the theory still holds true today. You can pick up on some of the more dated items but its a good insight to the post war hay days of flight science.

⭐brilliant thank you very much for making this availbe to me.

    ⭐Very good textbook

⭐Libro in buone condizioni. Prezzo conveniente.
