⭐When I first bought my TI-89 calculator, this book didn’t exist – shucks. I had to resort to using the manual provided by Texas Instruments to ferret out the features of the calculator. But, when I discovered this book, I bought a copy, and I’m glad I did. If you plan on using a TI-89, TI-89 Titanium, TI-92 Plus, or the Voyager 200 calculator, according to the author, this book is for you. I tend to agree. In this book, Edwards covers the basics of using the calculator in the first two chapters. After this introduction to the calculator, he covers doing algebra and trigonometry problems, and then segues into graphing and analyzing functions in Part III where he devotes three chapters to these topics. The next part (four chapters) deals with sequences, parametric equations, and polar equations. Part V covers differential and integral calculus, a chapter on vector calculus, a chapter on graphing surfaces and contour maps, and a chapter on differential equations. In the remaining parts, he covers matrices, probability, and statistics. He finishes with using the calculator to communicate with the PC or other calculators. In the appendix, you get an introduction into creating custom menus. Each chapter of the book is written so that if you know the basics covered in the first chapters, you can just jump to the chapter you need and learn what you need to know for the task at hand. I think Edwards has done a great job of explaining the use of this calculator. He has plenty of screen shots from the calculator to illustrate the explanations in the text. I had no problem following along. Note that this is not designed to be a comprehensive book covering all functions of the calculator. Don’t throw out you Texas Instruments manual. It touches base on the most important and probably the most likely to be used functions. The only thing I might have liked to have seen is, perhaps, some practice problems at the end of each chapter with screen shots of the solutions, but even so the book explains things pretty well. If you want a “cheat sheet” of calculator shortcuts and a summary of features that you can print out, do a search on Google for “TI-89 graphing calculator for dummies cheat sheet.” This provides a handy reference you can stuff in a book.

⭐It Could go more in depth with programming. I purchased this book when I was going to engineering school. I bought it thinking I would be able to learn how to program the calculator with it. There is very little in here about how to actually program it. Maybe there should be a TI-89 Programming book also. As I learned how to program this calculator I really found out how powerful it was. If you purchase a TI 89 and don’t find the need to write a program once in a while you have a lot more calculator then you need.I wrote a interpolation program for thermal transfer class in my body and I would finish the test early because with a couple of keystrokes we could get their numbers we needed. When everybody saw us finishing early, they were wondering how we were doing it. I started sharing my programs with them And they started benefiting from the power of the programming module and there’s a and they started benefiting too from the power of the programming in this calculator!

⭐I have had the TI-89 for a while and keep finding other classes it’s good for but the TI manuals you download are encyclopedias and not that helpful when you’re in a hurry and just want to figure out how to do one particular thing. This fills the bill. A lot of stuff is repeated in each chapter so if you just need something for a topic in say Ch. 9 you don’t have to read chs 1-8 to figure it out which is just perfect for me.I am taking Stat and Physics now and found just what I need to be productive in both in no time. It has a brief appendix for simple programming – just enough to do some simple stuff I need to key in some physics formulae and make a simple menu.If you want to get more deeply into programming or other features you will need a different book – but this will get you through basic physics, and stat.

⭐Be aware that this WAS published in 2005 and the TI-89 you buy today does always not correspond/is configured differently than when this was written. (SURPRISE!) For example, the section on the “diamond key” describes it as being on the RH side of the calculator, it’s on the left, not to mention the fact the it doesn’t really tell you everything it does. So you can be at a disadvantage in some instances. However, as a supplemental text for the TI-89 novice floundering about, anything is helpful and this is nice to at hand. (In addition to the thousand + page manual .pdf saved in your favorites online.) (SO not kidding.)

⭐You would not start a process without fully understanding all steps involved, correct? The instructions that come with the calculator are not enough. Going online and getting them is not any better. Yet, for a nominal price, we get this book that explains the intricacies of this wonderful piece of tech that helps us with numbers.

⭐HiI bought a ‘TI-89 Titanium Graphical Calculator’ and what strikes me the most is the abundance in overwhelming mathematical capabilities compared to a ‘TI-85’ of 1992. So while your becoming aware of the capabilities, it’s really helpful to have this to dip into.To complement the manual on CD PDF files this covers quite a lot of useful stuff such as vectors, calculus, (numerically and graphically) customisations, matrices, conversions, math functions, etc and does this in an uncluttered way.The book itself is printed on good quality paper, although pages are B&W.To rate how good it is this means you may need to reread it several times?Importantly, it shows you how to upgrade the TI 89 Titanium operating system and then install the customisable list of applications that you would like aboard. The cable to allow this IS available from T.I (online) and if you’re careful and have a USB and Internet enabled computer is so easy. Even this book does not cover the whole capabilities of this ‘TI-89 Titanium Graphical Calculator’. It could take a long time to explore and grow mathematically, but this book will help you get there a bit quicker.

⭐no problems to receive in Italy. Useful and funny book

    ⭐nice book

⭐This is a basic book about this calculator. If you need something to get you started then I would say this is just the thing. But I also say you will get the most from it if you have some experience with graphic calculators. I have found some of the diagrams not quite clear on certain points, you must read very closely and do not skip the intro.

⭐The book says in its introduction that pretty much all major aspects are discussed and explained. Well, programming is a major aspect of this calculator – and that is not even mentioned once!!! This is a major failure of this otherwise quite useful book.
