Description

Wavelets continue to be powerful mathematical tools that can be used to solve problems for which the Fourier (spectral) method does not perform well or cannot handle. This book is for engineers, applied mathematicians, and other scientists who want to learn about using wavelets to analyze, process, and synthesize images and signals. Applications are described in detail and there are step-by-step instructions about how to construct and apply wavelets. The only mathematically rigorous monograph written by a mathematician specifically for nonspecialists, it describes the basic concepts of these mathematical techniques, outlines the procedures for using them, compares the performance of various approaches, and provides information for problem solving, putting the reader at the forefront of current research. Written for an interdisciplinary audience of engineers, applied mathematicians, and other scientists with little or no knowledge of wavelets, readers with an undergraduate background in applied mathematics or engineering will appreciate this book.

Editorial Reviews: Review This book is for engineers, applied mathematicians, and other scientists who want to learn about using wavelets to analyze, process, and synthesize images and signals. Applications are described in detail and there are step-by-step instructions about how to construct and apply wavelets –Din Iasi, Fasc. 1-2, 1998 –Buletinul Institutului PolitehnicChui’s book is written with a true care for the reader. For applied mathematicians, engineers, physicists, and nontechnical people this book is of great interest.” –P. Gavruta, 1999 –Buletinul StiintifiThis very fine book covers the expected material of localization, multiresolution analysis, orthonormality, and biorthogonality for wavelets This book should be useful for anyone interested in wavelets from the point of view of applications to communications and signaling theory. –J.S. Joel, February 1999 –Zentralblatt fur Mathematik Book Description Mathematically rigorous monograph on wavelets, written specifically for nonspecialists. Places the reader at the forefront of current research. About the Author Charles K. Chui is a Distinguished Professor at Texas A&M University and is the author of several books published by SIAM, Academic Press, and Springer-Verlag. Read more

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐This book is well written for anyone who is interested in the practical applications of wavelets or for anyone who wants a brief overview. Unlike Chui’s first wavelet book, this book is not as mathematically intense while remaining substantive. There are MANY graphs, tables, and illustrations to help solidify an understanding of the math involved. As a graduate student in Harmonic Analysis, I find it to be enjoyable reading while on public transit or between other analysis books. I recommend this for anyone who wants to learn more about wavelets or is interested in signal processing.

⭐Beware! this book doesn’t render well on the Kindle Cloud and Kindle App (on android). I am seeing alternating text with graphics and then an entire scan of original paperback’s page which makes reading very frustrating.
