⭐My mother has been on dial up for the last 10 years. Her computer was so slow it wasn’t worth the effort to show her anything much past how to check her email and to order books from the library. I FINALLY was able to talk her into upgrading to dsl and with that came with a whole nother can of worms because she doesn’t know how to do anything (I live out of the state and it’s beyond impossible to explain everything over the phone). One day after spending several frustrating hours explaining how to attach a screen print to an email she says: “it’s too bad they don’t have a book I could read that explains all this.” OMG! DING! I instantly thought of this book. I zoomed over to Amazon and ordered it post haste. She gets it two days later and the rest is history. This book is currently saving me so many headaches it’s not even funny.

⭐My wife, bless her heart, decided to try to get PC savvy in the last couple of years. She struggled with basic concepts. I had her, as is good practice for all newbies, play solitaire in order to get use to mouse clicks and movements. When it came to doing anything else, she was lost.I got a copy of this book … when I went off to work each day, she would work through it at her own pace and began to learn little by little how to navigate and do basic tasks. Before long, she gained confidence to begin trying new things. Thanks to “Dummies” our marriage stayed strong, it being a great alternative to frustrating hubby-lessons on the PC.

⭐The product I eventually received was in great condition! However the set up to purchase was deliberately misleading. You get the impression that you can track item, not so!!! Then when they have taken your money you find that the item can take up to 3 weeks for delivery. I felt i was mislead, and repeatedly attempted to cancel my order. Was not allowed by the company selling the product. Eventually, i received a notice something about it has nothing to do with amazon but with the company. Bunch of baloney!!! Was not happy with amazon or the company. Won’t be buying anything fro them again.Fran

⭐I loved Windows XP which they have decided to discontinue. So I got a computer with 8.1 and INSTANTLY Microsoft was wanting me to change to Windows 10. Which my brother did and it ruined his computer, So he sent it to the serviceman and now his printer doesn’t print. I didn’t need the book, XP was too easy to figure out. I gave it to my other brother when I gave the XP to him.

⭐HAD BOUGHT WINDOWS XP TO UPGRADE MY WIN 98 AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS ENOUGH OF A DIFFERENCE THAT I NEEDED A LITTLE EXTRA HELP. I JUST STARTED USING COMPUTERS AGAIN AFTER BEING AWAY FOR 13 YEARS AND THEY HAVE REALLY CHANGED. I HAD TO UPGRADE BECAUSE ALL THE NEWW EQUIPMENT THAT I BOUGHT HAD TO HAVE XP, 2000, OR BETTER TO RUN. THIS BOOK HAS THE HINTS THAT I NEED TO GET ME FROM STUCK TO UN-STUCK IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. TOO MANY OTHER BOOKS ARE TOO TECHNICAL FOR THE AVERAGE JOE TO UNDERSTAND.

⭐This book is the clearest guide I’ve seen for operating a computer using the Microsoft XP system. It shows how to use the computer, and control it, with the minimum of BS and Techno-Babble! To paraphrase Einstein, “The best explanation is the simplest possible, but not simpler!” This book comes close: If you just want to use and control your computer with a minimum of geeking around, get this book.

⭐Excellent text and reference book. Easy to read and understand. Recommend for novice and mid-level computer users. I have found the “Dummies” books to be an indispensible part of my computer library upon upgrading to each new operating system and the DVD was just the thing to round off the learning process. Of course, if you’re too stuck on yourself to even consider reading something with “Dummies” in the title then maybe you better just use the old “trial and error method.” And if you’re going to buy a book, Amazon.com is the economical place to do it!

⭐The title was very appropriate for me since I’ve only been using a computer since July. The information was written so a novice like me could understand the info and also answered many of the problems I was having especially since I was using an older program and most info in other books are for the latest Windows program. I think I will be able to become more proficient as I continue to use the book.

⭐When I first got a computer I had no idea how to really work it and was looking for help online when I saw this book.The title fitted me perfectly so I purchased it.I am so glad I did it has easy to understand steps on how to get the best out of your computer.Each time I came up against a problem I would use this book to help me through it.It is a bit like your own personal tutor.I also learned about keeping my personal details safe online and the best anti virus programmes to use.A very helpful tool for technophobes.

⭐My reviewing this now ( May 2014 ; just as XP is being abandoned ! ) shows that I should do my reviews more often (^; ! I found this useful … a bit complicated but as I worked at it ; things became clearer … Which, surely is the purpose of the whole For Dummies series, innit ? … If they do one for the next WINdows programme ; I’ll probably wait until it crashes and buy the FOr DUmmies of that !

⭐Having previously had Windows Me for Dummies, I knew what to expect, and was not disappointed! The standard has been maintained, and I find this edition every bit as easy to follow and understand as its predecessor. If you don’t have any computer skills at all, this is the book for you!

⭐Even though I have used XP for years, this is still a valuable source of reminders, hints and tips. I’m sure that no one remembers all the knowledge to be had when using their computer. Cheers for Andy Rathbone.

⭐Another excellent ‘Dummies’ title – a perfect introduction to the apparent complexities of Windows XP, which was (and still is) arguably Microsoft’s best effort yet at an operating system.
