⭐ Another one of JHC’s black as pitch noir outings. Unfortunately the man appears to have been largely forgotten and just doesn’t seem to get enough credit these days so I am doing everything I can to pitch in and help out anyone who is interested in picking up hard-hitting pulp fiction from the 50s.This one is vintage JHC in that it starts off with a bunch of criminal types plotting an armed car heist with a clever twist and then it moves with lightning speed to the devastating denouement. Make no mistake, JHC’s heart was dark and twisted and he shows his characters no mercy. In the interim he keeps it tight and twisty and you can bet this is something that will keep you riveted over the course of a weekend or a plane flight.If you’re a fan of the better Humphrey Bogart/John Huston movies or feel like some vintage crime fiction with an extra dose of nasty this is definitely for you!

⭐ I used to be a big fan of JHC in my youth, so I tried one book after 30 years. Terrible, then I tried this one, which I couldn’t even complete. My fantasy of JHC is over!

⭐ Another great book by Chase. He keeps the reader in suspense right until the end.

⭐ The World in My Pocket is an armored car robbery caper that immediately reminds you of Lionel White’s the Big Caper or of many of the capers depicted in Westlake’s Parker series. This is all about getting a crew together, nailing down the plan, and pulling it off, as well as what doesn’t go according to plan. It’s all about the various characters brought together to pull off the heist, including the tough ringleader Morgan, the safecracker, the driver, and the sniper. And, of course, Ginny, the copper-headed seductress who came up with the plan and whose mere presence drives the four men wild and at each other’s throats.This book is filled with nonstop action and, even though the plot is not unique, Chase does a great job of it throughout and builds the tension throughout the story, cranking it up and up and up. Terrific pulp crime adventure with not a wrong note anywhere.

⭐ I collect books by James Hadley Chase, and this one didn’t disappoint.

⭐ An interesting text in this age of film/television. It was actually filmed, in fact. The characters and action were already vivid on the printed page.

⭐ Best hijacked Story hijacking was in its infancy when hoods team up and robbed an amored company carrying a $1,000,000 Also story about a youngster fell in love with one of the mob who was a woman when they were supposed to play the part of a young couple vacationing. The ending part was great, read it complete different from today’s garbage like “The Expendable’s” starring Slyvester Stallone

⭐ Very slow. Couldn’t read more than 50 pages.
