Description

The Emmy Award-winning comedian, actress, writer, and star of Inside Amy Schumer and the acclaimed film Trainwreck has taken the entertainment world by storm with her winning blend of smart, satirical humor. Now, Amy Schumer has written a refreshingly candid and uproariously funny collection of (extremely) personal and observational essays.

In The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, Amy mines her past for stories about her teenage years, her family, relationships, and sex and shares the experiences that have shaped who she is—a woman with the courage to bare her soul to stand up for what she believes in, all while making us laugh.

Ranging from the raucous to the romantic, the heartfelt to the harrowing, this highly entertaining and universally appealing collection is the literary equivalent of a night out with your best friend—an unforgettable and fun adventure that you wish could last forever. Whether she’s experiencing lust-at-first-sight while in the airport security line, sharing her own views on love and marriage, admitting to being an introvert, or discovering her cross-fit instructor’s secret bad habit, Amy Schumer proves to be a bighearted, brave, and thoughtful storyteller that will leave you nodding your head in recognition, laughing out loud, and sobbing uncontrollably—but only because it’s over.

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ While this book had some very funny and touching moments, it was, for the most part a platform for the author to spout her personal agenda[s] and political views and scold the reader for not being open minded (code for “see it my way or be cussed out”). As a rule, I would like entertainers to entertain. If you have a point of view, or something you feel passionate about, fine. If your a comedian, help me see it by making it funny in some way. Don’t go on and on about how it’s your book and F-the reader if they don’t like it. If a reader wants to hear long, drawn out…pontifications…on some personal agenda or political views this is the book for you. Personally, I would got to the established sources for that to get my fill rather than a book that I was hoping to make me laugh a lot more than it did. All in all, for me, a very disappointing read. The author, in my opinion, is extremely talented actor and stand-up and should probably see writing as a form of personal therapy than entertainment

⭐ She wrote this book mad at her mom and I think she is going to regret what she wrote in the future. I don’t think it’s fun for the reader to be middle of mom rant. I love her show but this book dragged and was not funny.

⭐ After finishing this book I couldn’t give it less than 5 shiny stars! Amy Schumer won me over with her jokes and raw honesty, huge courage and limitless amounts of love for her family and friends. Her voice in this book sounds very true. When I started this book, I had only a vague idea about who Amy Schumer was. Now, I know a lot about her. She is a successful comic and she is living her dream. She cares about people and she worked hard to achieve her goals. And she has a dumb lower back tattoo.Amy Schumer is shameless in this book and sometimes unapologetically gross. Btw: I want to make it clear, that I don’t like jokes about intimate stuff. I think they are just embarrassing and not funny at all. Normally, people that make this kind of jokes and old, bald and gross. But Amy makes it all ok somehow, she is funny. And she can laugh at herself. I was surprised by this book, because it wasn’t only jokes, tequila and sunshine. It was sometimes heartbreaking to read.To sum up, Amy is witty and she is a fighter. She seems to be in a happy place right now and I am happy for her.

⭐ Her jokes weren’t that funny and the constant foot notes that she read throws the book totally off. Would not recommend.

⭐ Amy delivers her thoughts in the funny, self-deprecating way she is famous for. It’s a book that teaches you a lot about self-confidence, about family turmoil, about resilience. Each chapter approaches different subjects: from traumatic events in family life to domestic abuse to dealing with the invisible side of press conferences and interviews. The author manages to describe her mishaps in a light-hearted, yet thoughtful way. It’s not easy to admit you are not perfect and that you are not desirable and friendly round the clock. On the other hand, she describes her success with same ownership as her failures and I think this is true empowerment; but this in mainly owed to years of hard work and sacrifice. This is a lovely read, you discover an imperfect woman who still manages to be resilient and inspiring. I think her being bully of the bullies description is the most endearing take-away from this book.5/5 the type of book I would recommend to close friends.*You may be discouraged to read this book, based on some of the hate that the author is receiving right now. Please bear in mind that:-> The hate is based on some of the political stances the author has adopted in the past year; However, when you read the book you will find solid arguments and you will find the extensive research she has done before adopting a position;-> The joke copying argument is laughable after reading the book. This is because in 300 pages you will recognize the exact same style of making jokes she has in her stand-up. Some stories may lead to similar punchlines but her jokes are her own as is her style.

⭐ Light read, funny, interesting depiction of Amy’s life and career. If she truly wrote this, I’d almost argue that her writing is even wittier than her standup.

⭐ Thought it was a waste of time. Stories of humiliation. I was embarrassed for her.

⭐ It is a funny book, with lots of personal humor. However, I found myself getting tired of her off the wall, in your face writing about 1/2 way through the book. Definitely some great portions but not a fan of all of it.

⭐ I’d watched some Amy interviews where she seems to be a little more endearing and gentle and kind, so I gave her book a whirl. The first chapter is called “An open letter to my vagina,” which gives you an indicator of what to expect. A lot of gross stories told not for any reason– you could argue that they’re for humor, but there are much better ways to be funny. Still, she bares all, and shares some encouraging, honest stories that are good for all to read and know.

⭐ I wouldn’t say this is a bad book- but I wouldn’t say it was as good as I wanted it to be. I’ve admired Amy for years and was so excited to read her first book. I bought tickets to her show and not only did she cancel, but then she provided this book which was proficient at best. Give us more raunchy material! I don’t care what your stuffed animals names are. I care about your one night stands and drunken mistakes. Thank you.
