User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐good explanation of why countries are successful or not

⭐Another geopolitical master class by Tim Marshall

⭐I think he tries too hard in his writing. Some good points but the writing can be more efficient

⭐I have always thought why we are strengthening borders in a world where we have to cooperate internationally. But after reading this, I might have been somewhat naïve with things. Since I did I not consider their relations to the neighbouring country as much as far away lands. The good points about this book are that, since I am a university in Liberal Arts this book was, though it may be controversial to some extent, in my perspective the best author in the field of Journalism. But to get a rough idea, I think it is a good starting point to be reading this book. I started reading this book because of “Prisoners of Geography” by the same author. Also in my perspective, there aren’t any bad points to mention either.I would strongly recommend this author and his books to anyone who is thinking to read these kinds of books because it gives you an insight into this field. Though I do admit the English of this book is rather difficult. However, there are a couple of languages that have already translated to mainly the European languages. I wonder why the author has not translated into more Asian languages.

⭐I found nothing much new in the book. It did not add to my understanding of the world as it is. It was a retelling of things already considered, some of them many times. Some of the writing was poor, as though rushed; better editing would have helped. Overall I was disappointed.

⭐Tim Marshall is one of my favourite authors. Prisoners of Geography and Worth Dying For were excellent and Divided does not disappoint. His knowledge of geopolitics and the world we live in is so extensive. We all live in a world where we seek knowledge from the media be it written, on TV or on line. However much of that is determined by those providing the information depending upon agendas they hold. We only have to look at the President of the US who calls out fake news whilst watching Fox News. Tim explores the issues across the world in a detailed and unbiased way. I learn so much from his books and see the detail behind many issues in our world. This book looks at walls, both physical and metaphorical, in many areas with great perception. A thoroughly good read for everyone who has an interest about the world we live in and the future it holds.

⭐Easy to read, timely hard data on the complexity of our world. Couldn’t put it down but I so wanted to at times as there is uncomfortable knowledge here that pretty much demands a change of thinking. I came at this as an ignorant wanting to learn. I come away different. Not sure how yet. There’s a lot to digest here.

⭐Divided: An exceedingly intelligent, most compelling book thoroughly recommended – ANY BOOK BY TIM MARSHALL IS FIRST CLASS!Many thanks Tim and Amazon.Kind regards, Yvonne Bassett
