⭐The availability of the book allowed me yo work on my assignments on time.

⭐I completed an abstract algebra course as an undergrad, and now for some reasons I want to pick it up a little.On the contrary of other comments, I think that the book is very readable. No other books I’ve read can finish Galois theory before page 223 (Well I skipped most examples so it’s rather quick) without losing rigor or being incomprehensible.For reviewing purposes one should skim Chapter IV and finish IV, V. VI, VIII, IX, X(which barely exists), XI and maybe XIV. Others are still interesting to read. Galois theory is hard to understand as always. But maybe it should be…If you feel a little bored and want to see the subject in a more ‘natural’ according to the historical developments, this book might be good. But of course, one won’t be prepared for grad school if you only read books of this kind.”Galois Theory for Beginners: A Historical Perspective” by Jorg BewersdorffThe time of finishing these two books combined are still much, much lower than finishing Artin’s algebra book. If you are not going to be a researcher in algebra, then the most efficient way seems to be picking a thinnest book that you can understand (but should still cover group, rings and Galois theory, Dover editions are of course a good choice). instead of trying a book famous for its author and coverage (Artin, Munkres, Rudin, etc, etc).

⭐I seriously don’t understand why people are giving this book a hard time. I though it was phenomenal. Well written, examples are adequate, problems are challenging, but doable. This book made my algebra class one of my favorite of my math degree.

⭐The examples given were vague and not helpful. The text itself was verbose and wordy, even for an algebra text. There were a bunch of practice problems, but no answers are given. Oh sure, there are a few answers in the back, but the “answers” are more along the lines of “This proof is obvious.” Which it obviously isn’t, otherwise I wouldn’t be doing practice problems in an introductory book. If you’re a professor, I’m BEGGING you to not subject your students to this. It is NOT a learning tool.

⭐This book is well-written. It is wonderful for an undergraduate studying algebra for the first time. Its readability is its key feature. If you want to study algebra independently, this would also of great use to you.

⭐Great book. Easy to follow. The book has served me well thus far. I am able to follow the examples and learn from them. The section on logic and proof writing is very useful.

⭐I love this book! I’ve read several abstract algebra textbooks, and this is still one of my favorites. I find it very accessible, and I still learn new things from it every time i look at it.

⭐I almost failed this course but with the help of the book I ended up passing
