Description

Multivariable Mathematics combines linear algebra and multivariable calculus in a rigorous approach. The material is integrated to emphasize the role of linearity in all of calculus and the recurring theme of implicit versus explicit that persists in linear algebra and analysis. In the text, the author addresses all of the standard computational material found in the usual linear algebra and multivariable calculus courses, and more, interweaving the material as effectively as possible and also including complete proofs. By emphasizing the theoretical aspects and reviewing the linear algebra material quickly, the book can also be used as a text for an advanced calculus or multivariable analysis course culminating in a treatment of manifolds, differential forms, and the generalized Stokes’s Theorem.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐We purchased this as a used textbook, and all I can say is that you would be hard pressed to realize it was used! The spine looks like the book was never opened and all pages and both covers are pristine!

⭐I needed this textbook for one of my online courses, and not having access to the professor made this textbook 100x worse. The examples are not really helpful for figuring out how to do a lot of the problems, as it’s a lot of proofs. I ended up learning most of the course online using helpful youtube videos instead, and the book served as more of a hindrance than a resource.

⭐Great book for students who want to go for master degree

⭐This is very nice book that produces a very complete coverage of the material. Why give it only 2 stars? Easy. The material is not so advanced that it is worth the ridiculous price. Hubbard and Hubbard is more cost-effective (you save $40) and has a lot more material. Alternately you can purchase Borden and Shilov from Dover together and save $125.

⭐Fantastic shape, though find some circling in some pages but doesn’t affect readingDefinitely would recommend

⭐I’ve taken a lot of math courses, and I feel this text makes the math less intuitive than your average text.

⭐N o problems getting the product . In ex pected quality when shipped to m e . Good packaging .

⭐This book is probably best for young students who have a large amount of time on their hands. There are some parts about it I love—such as the effort to give an intuitive explanation of every concept, the attention given to creativity, problems, typesetting, and diagrams; and there are some things I hate—the fact that sometimes the book tries too hard to explain and just ends up obfuscating the concept; the weaving, self-conscious prose; and the fact that sometimes more subtlety is better, which the text occasionally seems to forget. If you are mature enough, I think you can probably learn the content here well from a more terse presentation. And if you are immature, a more terse presentation might be a quicker way for you to grow up.But in all, I can’t hate this text for the sake of its effort to really make students understand the interplay and rigorous nature of mathematics. Two books which are similar to this one are(1) Advanced Calculus of Several Variables by CH Edwards, which I prefer and highly recommend (readable yet compact)(2) Hubbard and Hubbard’s Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Forms. I do not have experience with this, but have heard rave reviews. In my opinion, at 800 pages, it is probably a sprawling summary of all undergraduate mathematics, with some ingenious insights.

⭐DO NOT BUY PAPER BACK COPY mine was utterly destroyed despite claiming to be new.Book arrive with cardboard around each of the four corners and was sealed in plastic, but apparently it wasn’t from the factory but after the fact as after i removed the plastic and the cardboard that was in immaculate shape off the book. All four corners were damaged and can clearly see where parts of it have been opened and folded over and creased and banged up everywhere. one would be hard pressed to sell this book in used condition as acceptable the conditions good, very good and like new would be absolutely off the table. Cover not withstanding only about the last 80 pages of this 500 pages book are not visibly bent or creased. at least 50 small dings on the outer cover, very difficult to believe this is a new book.

⭐The book is very well structured. It provided me with exactly what I was looking for: an extended treatment of how differential forms are used to do traditional mathematics. I have studied all the math covered but prior to the emphasis on forms which has become an essential tool for general relativity. My background in differential and riemannian geometry was traditional and entirely tensor-based and while I have absorbed what is needed for GR, I wanted a more thorough treatment of the ways in which the forms are used beyond those areas. I have enjoyed both the text and the lectures that Shifrin has produced.

⭐Ted’s book on Multivariable calculus is absolutely the best i’ve seen. The books covers a lot from basics of MVC to manifold theory and differential forms. The exercises are good, and motivated mainly from physics. This book goes nicely with his lecture series on Youtube, which is again brilliant.

⭐wonderful book covering linear algebra and multivariable calculus and the interconnection between the two. lucky to have india edition by john wiley.

⭐Mezcla de algebra lineal y calculo multivariable.Calidad texto y contenido
