Stephen Leather is one of the UK’s most successful thriller writers. Before that, he was employed as a biochemist for ICI, shovelled limestone in a quarry, worked as a baker, a petrol pump attendant, a barman, and worked for the Inland Revenue. He began writing full time in 1992. His bestsellers have been translated into more than ten languages. He has also written for television shows such as London’s Burning, The Knock and the BBC’s Murder in Mind series. Two of his books, The Stretch and The Bombmaker, were made into movies.

⭐ Dan “Spider” Shepherd is an SAS Trooper in A-Stan and his unit is under command of a new, inexperienced CaptainTodd. Todd has come under the influence of an Afghan , Ahmed Khan,who has won his confidence, but not the troopers,including Spider. Todd authorized some soldiers to drive Khan back to his village. When they do not return Todd must put together a full squad to follow up on the first crew to find out what happened. They find the Rover on it’side in a ditch. All the troopers are shot to death. Khan is missing. Spider’s suspicions about Khan are confirmed. Capt.Todd has made a tragic mistake. Khan’ s treachery must be revenge d. AN all out assault is planned and the unit is set to fly into the “Kill Zone” in Chinook helicopter,’ sLeather’ s description of the battle is terrific,it is nip and tuck,for Spider and his mates. Some will not survive and some will be severely wounded, but you will have to read the story to find out who made it home. I really enjoy Leather’ s novels and stories and not just because my husband is the real Spider Shepherd!

⭐ Totally addicted to all the Dan (Spider) Shepherd books. I’ve read every one and look for new ones constantly. I have read every one of the series and would advise reading them in order to understand why somethings are as they are. 5 big stars!

⭐ Violent & high tempo.

⭐ This is my first time to read a Spider Shepherd story, but I’m now a convert. He’s very similar to Lee Child’s Jack Reacher, so anyone that loves Jack, will also like Spider. I couldn’t put this book down – it’s a great read! Thanks Stephen Leather!

⭐ This was developing into my type on novel, unfortunately in ended too soon. Was gripping up to the last lift off.

⭐ I like to follow the career of Spider shepherd. Even though this is a short tale there is still the intensity that is found in the longer stories. An excellent read

⭐ Stephen Leather writes great short stories but I am not a fan of his military/espionage stuff. His detective and Thailand stories are far better.

⭐ I just wish it was a longer story! Enjoyable as always. Such a reliable author. One of my favorite authors.

⭐ I love Stephen Leather writing style. Another short story definitely worth reading. Also try out the entire Spider series if you liked this short story
