⭐I’m not impressed. It’s supposed to be for dummies but it assumes the user is quite versed with French. I’m at an advanced beginner stage and could not stay engaged as it did not seem to progress in the right direction.

⭐I loved the cartoons at the beginning of each chapter. Material was well organized and easy to use.

⭐French Verbs for Dummies is straightforward and easy to use. Short chapters present a grammar point with examples followed by lots of exercises. Knowledge of French is barely needed so you just have to look at the pattern, memorize it and reproduce the appropriate verb form later in the exercises.The book does an amazing job in teaching the practical side of French verbs. The structure of the book is very predictable and the format makes the learning process very much automatic. Get a pen, fix yourself to a table and work like a sewing machine until you run out of paper.I found it especially valuable that the book has the answer key conveniently located at the end of each chapter (not at the end of the book). It is so intuitive I am surprised other publishers don’t do it.The reason why I do not give the book 5 stars is extremely annoying language of the explanations. “These mysterious words are called verbs. I know it sounds so complicated but try not to be too afraid to look at the next sentence”. I know the title says “for dummies”, but my expectation was to see the material presented in an easy way, not to get explanations constructing the image of a dumb reader. Overall, it is totally a good value for money.

⭐Helpful and easy to understand

⭐Author worked very hard to make french verbs easy as possible to learn. In doing so, some “corners got rounded”. I tripped over some of them which cost me additional effort, so sometimes the rounding was not ideal. In general, I’m happy I got the book and I appreciate the authors attempt at making the learning experience easy. Recommend having a french expert to call for when you trip like I did.
