They have both been in the writing industry for over 30 years. Maddy’s interest in fish began when she was five years old. She often dreamed of keeping fish at home as she watched the local fishermen bring in their daily catch in her hometown. She began keeping aquariums at age seven and began breeding fish at age ten. She built her aquarium collection by selling and trading her newborn fry to local aquarium stores in exchange for aquariums and equipment as she was growing up. Her passion for aquarium fish continued on after she finished her college degree in journalism and began writing aquarium-keeping articles for print and online aquatic magazines. Eventually, she wrote several aquarium columns and began writing fishkeeping books to help other hobbyists enjoy keeping aquariums at home as much as she did. Her love of fish has also appeared in her greeting cards, cartoons, and other artwork. Mic has kept aquarium fish for almost 30 years. He was one of the first sailors to develop a tank system that could keep aquarium fish alive onboard Navy vessels. His love of fish began when he saw many different species, aquatic traditions, and other hobbyists while on his worldwide military travels. Both authors enjoy breeding fish, traveling, scuba diving, cooking and creating exciting new recipes, collecting old records, and computer games.

⭐FRESHWATER AQUARIUMS FOR DUMMIES BY MADDY HARDGROVE might not have a current publication day (2006) but it is still the best fish book I’ve read so far. I am returning into the world of freshwater aquariums after about a ten year hiatus and needed a refresher course on keeping freshwater fish & the aquariums they live in . I have always been a big fan of the “dummies” series because the experts who write them get down on my level using little technical terms and lots of one syllable words that I can understand. This book is not only good for people like me returning to the fishy world by newbies & even experienced people can maybe learn a thing or two from it. One good thing about the book is you dont need to read it all you can skip chapters that are not needed & the information keeps coming and coming . Well worth the cost this one is going in my shelf of reference for when I and my finny friends need a little advice.
⭐Being a first time aquarist, this book provided me with A LOT of great information that definitely saved me from headaches and from wasting a significant amount of money in dead fish. I would highly recommend this book for anyone considering setting up an aquarium. There’s a lot more to it than you think, and this book makes it easy to read and understand.
⭐Really helped a lot. Having an aquarium used to be: get a tank, put some decorations in it, fill with water, put chlorine removal tablet in and fill with fish. Now, everything is so technical, but this book spells it out for you in simple terms.
⭐I bought this expecting to get a step by step on how to start a new fish tank from scratch. It does that but the instructions are boiled down into about 2 paragraphs (per type of environment) about halfway into the book. There is a lot of information here that is going to be great for keeping up the tank, maintenance, and solving problems. It also seems to repeat certain points over and over again.Overall it’s a good reference. I think the organization could be better. I would not get the digital copy, get a physical copy. The kindle app just is not built for reference books like this.
⭐Very helpful. Especially when it comes to fish diseases and water balance. Not many books say anything about fish disease.
⭐The book is a really good for someone starting out in the Fresh Water Aquarium Husbandry Hobby. Following this guide will result in a pleasurable experience in the Aquarium Hobby.
⭐I’ve been thinking of getting back in to my childhood hobby of keeping freshwater tropical fish. Reading this book was a good refresher and gave me a few new tips. It convinced me to take the plunge and buy an aquarium
⭐Great overview of freshwater aquarium information. Of the three books I have on freshwater aquariums, I go to this one first.
⭐My daughter wanted some fish for her birthday, and even though I kept fish as a teenager I wanted to ensure we got off to a good start with her new hobby, so we purchased this essential book. The language used in the book is easy to understand, and the step by step instructions on all aspects of fish keeping, from the tank set-up to the purchasing of fish is easy to understand. There is also loads of useful information on topics such as keeping your fish healthy, adding plants to the aquarium and even breeding your fish.Overall this is a very handy and easy to read guide to all aspects of fish-keeping as a hobby. The only thing that kept if from receiving five stars is the lack of metric measurements. Most fish products in England are now sold using metric.
⭐Perfect for beginners and professionals, easy to read and understand. Everything explained in plain English and no gobbledygook. A must have if you want to start keeping happy and healthy fish.
⭐Bought this book as I decided to delve into the weird and wonderful world of tropical fish and all the information I kept getting from the local aquatic centres seemed to be confusing and contradictory. For a beginner, its not a bad book at all. There is free information available on the internet but I wanted something I could refer to quickly and browse as and when I wanted to.The contents cover everything you need to know but Im not convinced its laid out in the most logical of of order. However fishkeeping isnt an exact science so maybe thats why.One word of warning….its written for our friends across the pond so many of the web sites suggestions are US based and irrelevant for the UK.
⭐This book is great for starting out and as a quick reference. Lets face it, everything you ever need to know is on the internet but sometimes there are just too many conflicting opinions. This I have found out to my detriment and killed a few fish in the process.the book is geared towards the American market but if you know how to search in Google etc you will not have a problem fingding the products it recommends here in the UK.Only downside is I would like to see it have a more comprehensive range of species and their compatibility with each other, Otherwise it’s a perfectly decent book.
⭐Bought this book as I am relatively new to keeping fish. I wanted to know more about filters/water problems etc. Whilst the book does address these issues I wished for a little more depth. To be honest if you have access to the internet you will find a lot more information on forum sites and a lot easier as well.
