Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐It’s been a minute since I have used Flash for anything, so this is a great refresher book. Good price!
⭐http://www.amazon.com/Flash-Professional-Digital-Classroom-small/dp/0470410930/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1257693966&sr=8-1-catcorrAdobe Flash CS4 Professional Digital Classroom (Yes, DIGITAL CLASSROOM… not the classroom in a book version)I paid $50 + tax at Barnes & Noble for that book. Then I bought Flash CS4 for Dummies for $30.I read digital classroom first, and went through every video tutorial on the companion DVD. There were, if I recall correctly, 2 videos that had missing work files, but it wasn’t a big deal. That book was EXCELLENT… but it did leave me hanging in a few spots where I’d wonder HOW something would work, and WHY it would work.. instead of just how to make it do what I wanted. That’s where Flash CS4 for Dummies became useful to me. It goes into a little more detail into the how/why, rather than “it just works”.That being said, I definitely don’t think it could stand on its own… it’s not hands-on enough to be a beginners guide/tutorial.. but it does make a great reference I would say.. which may have been what they were targeting in the first place, I’m not sure. The actionscript 3.0 section in the book though, leaves much to be desired.Anyway.. buy it or not, it won’t be the end of the world either way. But I DO highly recommend Adobe Flash CS4 Professional Digital Classroom… it’s fantastic.
⭐I am not giving a bad review for the possible outdating of this book (adobe is now at flash CS6). But with a recent personal interest on flash programing and finding this book new for $1 (sounds like a steal!!!), I was quite disappointed by this book. Basically, this book is simply a manual to use flash CS4, no follow through big project to do while learning the flash CS4… Hence you could save yourself some money (well I won’t cry for my $1 loss…) and just go along with whatever documentation adobe may have provide with CS4… If not enough, some website tutorials should help.
⭐As a complete neophyte to the Flash world, I hoped this would be an easy introduction. Well, it does offer an overview, and it is basic, with easy language. But learning is most efficient when hands-on and step by step. So, after a few days of overview, I’m still looking for a text to offer a classroom/tutorial approach. This text will soon hit the recycle bin, as it doesn’t offer enough detail to justify keeping it as a reference. Unfortunately, it also doesn’t offer enough of an intro to be very useful as a beginner text. Still looking.Dave
