⭐When it comes to CD and DVD recordings I’m one of the original dummies, so I really sought this book out. Although the book dates from 2002, ancient history in computer years, with a revision in 2004, I felt the basic information about CD and DVD recording hadn’t changed much, which is why I bought a used copy. I’ve often wondered how CDs and DVDs differed, how they were created, and how they played back. I also wondered about the different versions of blank CDs and DVDs I saw in the electronics sections of stores. What the heck was the difference between a DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM? When would I use which? This book answered that question and many more I had. It also gave me more information about CD and DVD recording than I needed or ever will use. Unfortunately, the main problem with any computer book this old is that it references software that is no longer relevant or even available, so most of that information is useless. Even so, I found about 1/3rd of the information in the book helpful and, considering this is just about the only book available on the subject, well worth buying.

⭐True, there are many controversies raging about copying DVDs and copyrights. I suspect we are in a transition zone with all this and “the industry” will figure out how to help people love and cherish their DVDs rather than simply calling everyone a pirate. Having said that, I can also understand why an author of such a book wouldn’t want to “say too much” about this controversy, especially if he his looking over his shoulder at “the lawyers.” I was trying to think of an analogy to express my disapointment in this book (and this isn’t a good one) but it goes like this: You want to go to Israel and you buy a book on “Israel for Dummies” and you search for something, anything on the controversy of the wall they are building. But instead of finding a discussion of the controversy you find a few off-handed quips about “There’s a wall going up and it’s causing some controversy. ‘Nuff said.””‘Nuff said”? Hel-lo? Were dummies out here, that’s why we bought the dumb book!There might be some useful information for some people, but I was sorely disappointed.

⭐to better understand the different typs of disc

⭐For anyone who has any basic familiarity with using a computer (viz. using EXPLORE to navigate the file system and some program to defragment the drive and determining how much disk space you have available) this book is useless. It really doesn’t present anything other than designing a disc label that you won’t get with the instruction manuals with the hardware/software you buy for burning a CD or DVD. It’s “worth less than nothing” because it costs time and postage to return the book. But, I’d say it’s better than “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Creating CDs and DVDs”.

⭐Only a dummy would buy this where return is inconvenient. Save your money and just ask your kid how to do it. If you don’t have a kid find one and give it $5 to show you….

⭐A few good suggestions but mostly operating instructions for software which has long since bit the dust.

⭐Why CD”s and DVD”s have to be so confusing I don’t know. This “Dummies” book like all the others I’ve purchased help diffuse the confusion- in understandable terms.
