Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐It is a decent book, but lots of outdated information. For instance, it states that if you don’t have both or one of the celiac disease genes (HLA DQ2 or DQ8), you probably will not develop that disease. It is known today that if you don’t have both or any of those genes, you will not develop celiac. disease. This is already a scientific consensus and mentioned in all books written by leading researchers in celiac disease, such as Dr. Murray of Mayo Clinic, in the last several years. 2) The author states that there has been an increase of celiac disease diagnosis worldwide, but not a surge on people who have the HLA DQ2 or DQ8 genes. This is also not true. In more recent books written about celiac disease, there are studies mentioned, showing the contrary. There is one, for instance, done in Finland in the 90’s, which researchers compared stored blood samples of people of the 1950’s with blood taken in the 1990’s, and they detected several times an increase of the number of people with the HLA DQ2 or DQ8 genes, in the newer generations. 3) The author of this book also mentions the number of people with celiac disease, now occurs more with people over 40, than children. This is also questionable, as some studies done in the U.S, showed the overall group tested of kids in different towns across the country, with 15% tested positive for celiac disease. This book has some useful information, which I haven’t read in other books, but note that this book was written in 2010. Thus, it has some outdated information. The best is to read this book, after you have read other more recent books about the subject. This will help you spot outdated, incorrect information, more easily. But, by no means, I don’t think it’s a bad book. It covers subjects that other books don’t cover. However, just as mentioned previously, just get in mind about a few outdated information on the book. It would be good if the author could write a new version of this book, since a lot has changed in the last 11 years with celiac disease and its scientific findings.
⭐This book is written by two MDs who go into significant detail, especially about how to discuss test results and their implications with your doctor. Its nutritional information is of course sound but is not the main focus of the book. While it is not light reading as the title might imply, it does seem to provide a solid, science-based foundation of information.
⭐Learning about a Disease is confusing, this book makes it easy to understand.
⭐A LOT of info in this book. That’s what I wanted.
⭐I bought this book to help me understand celiac desease. My daughter, her husband, their three kids and my other daughter live with my husband and myself. The 15 year old has celiac which was only diagnosed the year before last. We try to cook gluten free for him, sometimes make a whole meal gluten free. I need to finish the book for the other information we can use to help him be strong.
⭐My son was just diagnosed with celiac disease. He’s 18 and was extremely frustrated. But this book has helped us. It really has some good tips and information.
⭐I was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease and found this book extremely helpful to better understanding and knowledge of do’s and don’ts and how to deal with gluten (as in do not eat it). The first chapters contain a bit too much medical jargon but once you get those words the rest is easy to read.
⭐With doctors giving you only 15 minutes these days, reading this book will answer all of your first level questions. Then you can save your ‘doctor time’ for the more important questions.
⭐This book is packed with a good amount of info on Celiac as well as mentioning other possible related conditions, diagnosis, treatments….plus more. Way to much to take in all at once, but a great go to as a resource or read in small amounts.Good price, well written and presented. Ideal for someone starting their Celiac journey, or good reference for the more advanced celiac.
⭐All you want to know about your condition you will find in this book.
