Stephen Leather is one of the UK’s most successful thriller writers. He was a journalist for more than ten years on newspapers such as The Times, the Daily Mail and the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong. Before that, he was employed as a biochemist for ICI, shovelled limestone in a quarry, worked as a baker, a petrol pump attendant, a barman, and worked for the Inland Revenue. He began writing full time in 1992. His bestsellers have been translated into more than ten languages. He has also written for television shows such as London’s Burning, The Knock and the BBC’s Murder in Mind series. Two of his books, The Stretch and The Bombmaker, were made into movies.

⭐ LOVED this series! This is why I love the Kindle Unlimited. I find these new authors that I never would have purchased otherwise and find that I love them! It’s awesome because if it’s dull, I haven’t lost anything. But you can be sure that I’ll be buying anything else in this series, which I hope never ends!I read this entire series in about a week. So interesting, creepy, mysterious, and well written! As an American, I did have trouble with some of the British words, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as some other authors I’ve read. The Kindle was helpful probably 70% of the time in figuring out what the words meant.

⭐ Another exciting plot with both familiar characters (good and evil) and new ones.This time Jack is called upon to be an avenger, once again placing his immortal soul in jeopardy and earning himself new enemies in the process.The story ends with the feeling that Jack has unfinished business with an old acquaintance the other side.Once again, if you enjoy stories about the supernatural, you will absolutely love this series.

⭐ Love this series (currently on book 6) – the books are dark, but there is some good humor in it. The writing kind’f reminds me of Mike Carey. I’m gonna start following this author.

⭐ I’m rereading all the Jack Nightingale books and they’re even better now than when I first read the. Stephen Leather is a great writer.

⭐ This is the stuff nightmares are made of. I was hooked by the first sentence of the first Jack Nightingale book and it’s been the same with each book in the series. They just get better and better! I highly recommend this book and this series to fans of mysteries, thrillers and suspense. You’ll love them! Just keep your lights on!!

⭐ I’ve read the first four books in the Jack Nightingale series, and this question still gets under my skin. In dealing with the supernatural, does he do the right things? Does he REALLY have a choice in the matter? What about his reasons for doing them? I suppose the main question has to be, is Jack Nightingale working for the Light or the Dark side? He seems like a good man. Read on…….

⭐ I’ve read all the books in the Jack NIghtingale series. They were great, and te detective, Jack Nightingale is a likable character.

⭐ I don’t think Stephen Leather originally envisioned to go any further than the trilogy, considering the book 3 of Nightingale pretty much ends up in a very conclusive manner. But following the success of the trilogy he probably decided to give it a go to do book 4.When I heard about a book 4, I immediatly pre-ordered it and couldn’t wait to read it. It is overall a good read BUT let me warn you: the book tackles some pretty hard topic such as child abuse. Like some other reviewers, I almost stopped reading the book after a few chapters, because of the hardness of the topics. However, if you get past those difficult chapters with some rather gruesome descriptions (which could have been toned down), you’ll find again here a very well written and enjoyable book. If you enjoy mistery novel mixed with supernatural/religious elements, you will certainly like all books of the series. I would recommend to read the books in order, not like I did: i started off by book 2 which I bought while waiting for a plane in Hong Kong airport , and I was a bit scratching my head trying to understand a few things.This book number 4 is good because of the way Leather manages to create exciting characters and can write very well, in a very fast paced manner. However book 4 is certainly the weakest of the series. Below my main complaints:- the topics of child abuse are overshadowing what Nightingale’s books are really about, typically mistery novels – heavily – flavoured with supernatural and religious elements. The very gruesome child abuse parts are actually almost unnecessary, as they don’t really add much to the key plot, which is about the “shade” demon (I won’t say more not to spoil)- There is 2 main plots in the book, which are actually not related, and the book could easily have only dealt with only the main key plot- After what Nightingale went through in the trilogy to regain his own soul and help various people, I felt it would have taken much more for him to put his soul again in a bargain (with demon Proserpine) in this book, especially for the little info he gets out of the deal. What I mean is that he had enough info and elements to be able to help the little girl without going through the trouble to put his own soul on the table again.

⭐ Given the way book three of the series ended, I wasn’t really expecting a fourth installment, however I was definitely excited when I saw it. That excitement ended about three chapters in…THE GOOD:With the exception of some extremely disturbing parts it ends up being a solid Nightingale thriller.As usual it’s well written.I thought this one was much more suspenseful than the last two books and in some parts down right scary.THE BAD:Way too much graphic description of some truly horrible and disturbing events.Two many plots, there’s just too much going on. This book could have easily been split into two books with different plots and I think it would have made for a much better read. There was just too much going on in this one to really keep track of what was related to what.It leaves a lot of questions that aren’t really addressed given the way that book three ended. We see some resolution of things like Jenny and Marcus, but there are some other big issues that are not even discussed.Overall, it’s a good book and when you get past the chapters of shock and disgust it’s a good read and a typical nightingale book. It just felt like the author was trying to throw in as much horribly disturbing stuff as possible and it really detracted from making a good book a great book. I almost got the feeling that the author had two more plot ideas left after the third installment and just decided to throw it all into one book and be done.Still, it’s a good book, and a good follow up to book three. If you’ve made it through the series then you should definitely pick this one up, just make sure the doors are locked and your kids are safe because this ones sure to bring you nightmares.

⭐ Well written and gripping. I ate it up like candy.
