Description
Until now, there was no single resource for actual digital system design. Using both basic and advanced concepts, Sequential Logic: Analysis and Synthesis offers a thorough exposition of the analysis and synthesis of both synchronous and asynchronous sequential machines. With 25 years of experience in designing computing equipment, the author stresses the practical design of state machines. He clearly delineates each step of the structured and rigorous design principles that can be applied to practical applications. The book begins by reviewing the analysis of combinatorial logic and Boolean algebra, and goes on to define sequential machines and discuss traditional and alternative methods for synthesizing synchronous sequential machines. The final chapters deal with asynchronous sequential machines and pulse-mode asynchronous sequential machines. Because this volume is technology-independent, these techniques can be used in a variety of fields, such as electrical and computer engineering as well as nanotechnology.By presenting each method in detail, expounding on several corresponding examples, and providing over 500 useful figures, Sequential Logic is an excellent tutorial on analysis and synthesis procedures.
User’s Reviews
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐Good and detailed theoretical book for students. But others (and students too, btw) should keep in mind that the book does not contain any string of any HDL’s code.
⭐Imagine, just some odd years ago you knew this and that, and imagine just today how you wish you could remember what you knew and not having to recollect the variant resources required to recompile that body of knowledge. Cavanagh pools together his years of experience and incorporates this working knowledge into a single resource that covers material most of us picked up from a number of different sources. The author’s style of nailing down details leads to clean comprehension of the material. This book is not the kind of book you know that you need until you have it in hand then you realize how much it simplifies your life as a digital designer.
⭐This book provides an in-depth discourse on the subject of sequential state machine design, which is the backbone for implementation of computer architectures, information transmission protocols, and other digital logic systems. All concepts and theory is exhaustively covered, and backed by plenty of examples. This book will serve well as an undergraduate text book for digital logic design, and is a definite companion to the practicing digital design engineer.
⭐Cavanagh has done it again. Like his book on Digital Computer Arithmetic, it is grammatically polished and comprehensive. This is one of the best books on sequential logic and finite-state machine design. It is something that the real world can use — the practical design of state machines. At least five stars.
