Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐A complete work but flawed in its presentation. The author took it upon himself to record this work instead of employing a professional voice actor and it shows. Sounding like a Jerry Seinfeld stand-up act, the author takes us through endless preliminary and legal information while we wait for him to get to the heart of the matter–The Torah. The information is well organized but is a frustrating listening experience that I cannot recommend in its present form. An Audible presentation would be most beneficial for this material.

⭐The Torah is the central and most holy text of Judaism. It tells the story of creation and the early history of the Jewish people with the story from Exodus. It also contains many laws and guidelines for Jews to follow and numerous hidden meanings as well. This book is a look at what the Torah is and how it applies to Jewish life. Kurzweil explains the five books of the Written Torah and what the stories in them mean. He also explains how the Torah guides Jews in their daily life such as how kosher food laws work and how to treat fellow people. He also looks at other aspects of the Torah including how it is read during synagogue services and how a proper Torah scroll is made. This book is not a general overview of Judaism, but only focuses on aspects of Judaism as it relates to the Torah. Also, the author writes mainly from an orthodox viewpoint. He gives very little credence to theories that the Torah originated in any other ways other than the story of how Moses wrote it as commanded by God.This is an interesting book to read for those looking for an overview of the most important text of Judaism. I would recommend this to those wanting to learn about Judaism.

⭐Arthur Kurzweil’s The Torah For Dummies is a fine example of an introductory text for a complex subject. It provides a range of substantial information, but does so in an organized and accessible manner that shouldn’t overwhelm or confuse even those who are coming to the subject with no prior knowledge. The book begins by introducing the Torah as text and then delves into the individual books that make up the Torah. It then moves on to a discussion of how the Torah continues to guide us in our everyday lives and a discussion of the role of Torah in Judaism, including its place within the larger structure of Oral Torah and the vast bodies of commentary that have accumulated around the Torah.A discussion of the Ten Commandments as understood in Judaism is provided, as well as a look at what Kurzweil considers to be some of the most commonly misinterpreted passages in Torah. This is an introductory text, and as such will primarily be useful to those seeking to learn the basics of Torah within Judaism or for those looking for a pedagogical resource for such students. It may also be of interest to non-Jews who wish to have a better understanding of how exactly different Judaism’s understanding of Torah is from, say, Christianity’s reading of their Old Testament.

⭐This book is a trove of information. It will probably take me a few more passes through to better absorb it, and I will enjoy and cherish every moment of it. Given the breadth and depth of the subject matter, this book packs an incredible amount of background information, history, explanations, and customs. Many many thanks to the author.

⭐This is one of the most simple and direct readings, more of a short commentary of each book of the Torah. Hebrew is an amazing language and I believe the only way to get insight into the text that was given to the Jews to teach, not that this book is a Hebrew language book but there are some words that the author has brought out and with his humor and knowledge of the language just makes it so much fun to read while learning. I have a Torah group that meets @ my house and we use this book to start conversations about the portions, so it seems to stir our simple (dummy) minds.

⭐Very good read and narration. I was overwhelmed by the ma y obligations we jews have to G-d and each other.

⭐I find this book to be very helpful in learning about the Jewish faith and it is written so that you can jump from one chapter to another. if you want to study one idea and decide to change your mind you can go to another part of this book and pick another section. In other words you can flip back and forth in this well written book to wherever you wish to study. Very informative.

⭐Judaism 101, this from me as a gentile wanting to convert.Very readable, easy to follow and understand. Lots of links for more information and further study.

    ⭐excellent item

⭐Made it simple to understand without being patronising

⭐Great book for beginners, arrived on time in good condition.

⭐Written by a Rabi, this book makes a brilliant read of the first five books of the Bible. Any one with an interest with the Old Testament will find this a good read!

⭐Very well written. Informative, intesting and reader friendly. I enjoyed the read and will certainly read it again very soon when I have time
