⭐Good condition, timely delivery, good price!

⭐I read the original Fantastic Voyage and this one is better. Always been a fan of Asimov, so I am glad I came upon this book. Prior to this just finished Robinson’s Antarctica (which I also enjoyed, but it was a slow read), so this is much more action-packed and fun to read. This is probably classified as science fiction but as Asimov’s main character says over and over at the beginning, this is impossible. I don’t know if making things smaller is impossible but if we ever find out how to do it, it is likely a million years into the future.

⭐Note: Despite the title, Fantastic Voyage II: Destination Brain is not a sequel to the book Fantastic Voyage, but a similar, independent story. What is currently called a reboot. Some reviews listed for this book are actually for the original.I suppose by some measures this isn’t a bad book, but sure isn’t a good book. It’s the worst Asimov work I’ve read. And part way through… I’m literally not sure if Asimov could write that bad, it literally is hard for me to imagine. There’s several things about I’m not crazy about but a big one is it is just sooooo slow: If this book were a chess game the first hundred or so pages would be “King’s Pawn to King’s 4th”. Each page isn’t bad, but collectively less happens in that hundred than a good novel’s first five pages.I rarely do plot spoilers but for those 100 pages an exception:”You should do it!” “I’m not gonna!” “…you will do it!” “I’m not gonna!” “…you will do it” “”I’m not gonna!” Repeat that 20 or so times…In case you’re wondering, he does it. To anyone who hasn’t figured that out by page 6: Either please see a neurologist or congratulations on reading grown-up books. As I labored on reading I finally gave up around page 185… For the first time reading Asimov (many many thousands of pages) I said to myself: “That’s stupid”… Not naive, not too convenient for the plot, just plain “doesn’t know better” dumb… I was shocked actually. The thing that got me… Slight spoiler alert:A ship of any kind without steering doesn’t move forward (even if it has a “forward gear”) it wiggles in a random way and is as likely to end up going backward as forward. Or sideways, or in the example of this book, up or down. Reading lines (apparently*) authored by one of the world’s great minds that indicate an unawareness of something so basic (I think I figured it out at about 7) literally made me feel bad.I realized that much I’d put up with earlier in the book was just about as sad writing ability wise .Given that the book was dull, the techno babble intense, the characters unsympathetic, when it made me feel just plain sad. I just quit.*Could this have been at least partially ghost written? I find that easier to handle vs the concept of a senile Asimov.Bottom line: Went from being the worst Asimov I’d read (but tolerable) to just plain bad.

⭐Pure Asimov. Full of humour and witty as hell… He makes you believe in anything. With my best regards from Madrid.

⭐To what pressure did Asimov bow in writing this book other than his own? And, incidentally, this is no sequel to the first Fantastic Voyage. There is no mention of anything from the first novel here. Asimov’s first Fantastic Voyage was not his own: he merely novelized a movie, and was never satisfied with the end result for all of its scientific and otherwise flaws. II is a much better example of Asimovian sicence fiction: totally cerebral, and I like that at the end of the plot, there was no “getting the girl,” as one sees all to often, even in Asimov’s novels. The victory here involved no sexual liason of any sort– it was merely that of a scientist having his views validated by grueling experience. There is too strong a tendency in many novels, especially in science fiction novels, to present the attaining of a woman’s affections as the “prize” toward which the male hero works and eventually succeeds in getting. Here there is the setup of that, but in the end no actualization. Asimov presents enough scientific notions throughout this book to spin any reader’s head, and more than one is are presented a little too didactically. But Asimov could not help it. In the end he was the disseminator of scientific knowledge that earned him the distinction “Great Explainer.”

⭐I know Asimov hated his novelization of the original Fantastic Voyage movie, given the constraints put on him by the studio, but this near-incoherent mess is much, much worse. The original book at least attempted to make right a few of the plot holes of the movie. This re-imagining of the whole story is disappointing; it’s one thing to make sure your science fiction is believable, but when you almost have nothing but scientific exposition to move the story, there’s not much fiction to be had. Adding that together with characters that are complete cardboard stereotypes and an archaic Cold War plotline (even from the time it was written) makes for an extremely dull read.Asimov is supposed to be so much better than this.

⭐I could not believe that this is indeed a book by Asimov and double-checked a couple of times. It is barely scientific, totally lacking logic and the finale is very predictable. I figured out the “surprise” ending in the first half of the book. The characters get developed during the book only to be completely shattered at the end. I really feel that I’ve waisted my time reading it.

⭐The book Fantasic Voyage is a very action packed book. I thought the book was very interesting. The five main characters of the book are General Alan Carter, Colonel Donald Ried, Dr. Peter Lawrence Duval, Dr. Micheals, and Lindsay. They must board an atomic sub and be miniaturized and go into a dying mans arteries. the slytest sound could kill them as they enter the mans ear.they must get to the arteries of the heart to save him. They must reach the blood clotin the guys artery. They must use the piecing ray of a laser to clear up the blood clot. If you want to know if they save the man or they all die in his body you will have to read the book.

⭐Once again, 2 separate reviews: One for the book, one for the transcription to Kindle.I had the original printed book from many, many years ago. For me, Asimov can do no wrong. He has taken the idea from the original Fantastic Voyage and produced a more extended plot coloured by the old cold war suspicions of America towards the Soviets. Works for me.Now to the transcription. Why is it all in bold? Why are there massive gaps between paragraphs? Do the transcribers not look at their finished product to see how it has turned out? Apparently not is my conclusion. It detracts from the enjoyment of the book. At least this transcription doesn’t have the plethora of spelling mistakes that previous products from this publisher has had. However, that doesn’t mean that it is spelling error free.

⭐The good story going much further than the original film and the technical and biological description were excellent. The interaction between the group of voyagers was tense with the two factions not wanting the other to know too much. An unforeseen ending was worth the wait.

⭐Despite the similarities to the original, this was a very well told and entertaining tale; of course – it’s by the great Asimov. There is plenty of detail and twists and turns of plot; very thought-provoking.

⭐I enjoyed the first book ‘Fantastic Voyage’ and was keen to read the sequel. I was not disappointed.
