Description
The author of I Used to Be a Miserable F*ck, The Angry Therapist, now teaches you how to prioritize your relationship with yourself and live a more meaningful life, whether you’re alone, dating, or with a partner. There’s more to life than loving someone. But being single can feel like a death sentence. Why does being alone = being lonely? And why do we stop working on ourselves when we’re in a relationship? After a painful divorce, “The Angry Therapist” John Kim realized he had never truly been on his own. He went on a journey to rebuild his relationship with himself, going from alone and disconnected to alone and fulfilled.Kim has gone on to help thousands of clients find their own unique way to break free of expectations and finally live their truth. With Single on Purpose, Kim takes his signature no-BS “self-help in a shot glass” approach as he shares his own singlehood story and shows readers how to own their shit, break their patterns, and find a grounded sense of self.Spending time to cultivate your relationship with yourself shouldn’t be something you only do when you hit rock bottom, go through a major loss, or have a quarter-life crisis. All of us, at some point, need to be single—on purpose.
User’s Reviews
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐I just finished this one and it’s so awesome for ANYONE because it’s really all about finding yourself and not people-pleasing. Whether you are in a relationship or not, you need to find yourself and be true to yourself first There’s only one or two things I kind of disagreed with, but everything else was solid advice and it was an easy, and at times a poetic read. Very humanizing and relatable. It’s nice to know that I’m on track because I’m already doing practically everything he suggests doing to not lose yourself. Which is another huge deal for me. I am more myself now than I have been in many years. It’s a wonderful headspace to be in. Life is pretty awesome right now. (I do have my bad days too, but they are tolerable and I can manage them way better now with the tools I have.)Sometimes I got bored because I felt like I was being given a pep talk that I didn’t need, but I get it. It was good to have it reinforced anyway.
⭐There are so many great nuggets that I will take with me and implement in various areas of my world!
⭐I’ve intentionally taken a time out from dating before. I was happy and took myself out on dates, After that 6 month break I tried dating through an app, with horrible results. So I’m back on a break again, for a year this time, and doing more work on me AND the art of dating. This book is helping with the work on me. It goes way beyond dating yourself. My major takeaway has been to remember and focus on the things that make me happy. Period.
⭐Lovely read for those of us who aren’t looking for relationship escalators
⭐Good book, it’s defiantly the therapy session that I think most need. They don’t need a therapist that comforts, it’s vulgar, it’s real. The key honestly found in the first few chapters, the rest helps you understanding following through and gives one ideas to do that just that. I knew this book was worth it’s weight when talking about cookin in boxers… cause if you ain’t ever been that low and lonely. Save this read for that time.
⭐Great book, great practical advice. John is funny as hell. Would recommend, even if you’re not single.
⭐I really gained some great insights inside this reading. There were a couple of things that the author suggested that just isn’t me, but might work for others. But most of this reading was very insightful and awakening
⭐Lives the guidance here. John does really well being straightforward whol e showing empathy. Great tool for men and women. Highest recommendation.
⭐What a wonderful book – I’d recommend it to everyone whether you’re single or not.John’s writing is candid, raw but also funny at times; (the bit with the dialogue with his parents really tickled me!).I also really liked how John shares his Single on Purpose Playlist at the end of the book, it’s such a nice touch.Being four months single from a thirteen year relationship, this book was a breath of fresh air and felt like a golden nugget. There were several phrasings used that really hit home for me. I’ll definitely be re-reading it and checking out John’s other books!
⭐Great book packed full of insightful thoughts. Some painful truths that needed to be heard and acted on. Great practical advice. Like the short chapters. It has a wealth of advice on every single page. Liked the conversations included. It’s quite funny too. Will revisit often for inspiration and a kick up the butt!
⭐This book has really changed how I view my life and has made me revaluate so many parts of it. Thank you.
⭐A wonderfully written book full of uplifting, empowering advice. Funny, raw and relatable, this one is highly recommended for anyone who is single, married, in a relationship or contemplating getting into one. John writes straight from the heart!
⭐This beautiful and simply written book brings an important reflection to the life of NOT ONLY SINGLES BUT ALSO COUPLES AND INDIVIDUALS. I read it in a snap and realized that I could do more to life my life.
