Description

Tackling relationships, career, and family issues, John Kim, LMFT, thinks of himself as a life-styledesigner, not a therapist. His radical new approach, that he sometimes calls “self-help in a shot glass” is easy, real, and to the point. He helps people make changes to their lives so that personal growth happens organically, just by living. Let’s face it, therapy is a luxury. Few of us have the time or money to devote to going to an office every week. With anecdotes illustrating principles in action (in relatable and sometimes irreverent fashion) and stand-alone practices and exercises, Kim gives readers the tools and directions to focus on what’s right with them instead of what’s wrong. When John Kim was going through the end of a relationship, he began blogging as The Angry Therapist, documenting his personal journey post-divorce. Traditional therapists avoid transparency, but Kim preferred the language of “me too” as opposed to “you should.” He blogged about his own shortcomings, revelations, views on relationships, and the world. He spoke a different therapeutic language —open, raw, and at times subversive — and people responded. The Angry Therapist blog, that inspired this book, has been featured in The Atlantic Monthly and on NPR.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I am thrilled to have this book in my life. The title is no BS……a guide to finding and living your own truth. I love John Kim’s style of writing. It’s like you sitting around a table with a friend who respects you enough to get to the good stuff and wants the best for you. This book is small and meaty. It’s not preachy, more practical and real. I particularly grabbed onto the the idea of transparency. That place where I look at my part in things and where I want to go. I had to own it all. When John gets to non-negotiables,I thought, oh I need this so much. I keep having some reoccurring themes in my life and had never even thought defining my non negotiables. Again, it’s up to me to define what I will and will not accept. Last but not least, building a new container, from a place of strength and intention, and ultimately finding and living my own truth. It’s not perfect and thankfully it doesn’t have to be, but my life is my own. Buy the book, but more importantly, read it, start trying some of these new things and see what happens.

⭐I can’t even remember when or how I found John (The Angry Therapist) but it was life changing. I’ve read a lot of books. Seen some counselors but John’s honesty, openness and genuine concern for others is really unique. My initial thought was this is the kind of counselor that I would love to see. He wouldn’t freak out when I was angry or sad and tell me to control myself. He was real so it gave me permission to be real. It was exactly what I needed at the time. When I found out about the book, of course, I pre-ordered it, immediately. I got it a day or so ago and have been reading it every chance I get.I think I’m at a personal place of breakthrough after years of work but I think the book is helping to really clarify things and make me laser focus in on some really important changes that I need to make.I would highly recommend reading The Angry Therapist. It is well worth your money and time.

⭐If you want some real results, read it with pen and paper aside, read it as slow as you need to be brave to be open about and to yourself. Or read twice. A self help in the most practical way.

⭐This is unlike any self help book you’ve ever read. John Kim takes what we all know and think about self help books and therapy and turns it all upside down. He’s relatable because he shares his own story and struggles in a transparent way that we can all understand. I’ve been a part of his community for two years and his way of communicating and teaching us all how to live our most valuable, authentic life, by working to repair the cracked container that surrounds us, is truly life changing. His tools are realistic, understandable, and most importantly, attainable and maintainable. You’ll have MANY A-HA! moments as I did along with some good laughs as John Kim takes you into his quirky, funny, and open hearted world. This book is a must have.

⭐John Kim (aka The Angry Therapist) really shares his story, and in that transparent sharing, promotes the telling of our story. Everyone has a story. Those stories shared are powerful and resonate deeply. This book is digestible and easy to read, yet thought provoking. Who knew therapists ride motorcycles and enjoy life? Did you know you can keep all the pages in your life story without needing to rip out chapters? John shows up for all of us here in these pages and on his blog and videos on Facebook. He is a true catalyst. Crack this book open, mount up and enjoy the ride (even if you don’t have a motorcycle helmet) you will feel the breeze of change and see hope on the horizon.

⭐This book offers real and honest advice about how to get thru life. I first came across John’s work in late 2012 when I someone tagged me in a CrossFit poster he made. I bought that poster and I love it so much. I’ve followed him since because his words are straightforward and to the point. I went through the Catalyst Life Coach training with him and was introduced to great people and exposed to some amazing content. John has so much to teach and offer the world. He has made an impact on so many individuals already, me included (obviously)! This book will definitely change your perspective and allow you to see life differently! Get it! You won’t be disappointed!

⭐I’ve been following John Kim (The Angry Therapist) for over 3 years now. His wisdom has guided me through some of the hardest times in my life and has helped me find my truth. His approach to life is honest, real and just “makes sense!” When I found out he had written this book, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and I’m so glad I did. It’s like no other self-help book I’ve read and I LOVE IT!! I can’t seem to put it down!!! Definitely a MUST read and believe me, it will help you discover your “container”, “your truth” and the happiness you desire.

⭐A Fresh Perspective on Living Your Truth.I have been following John Kim via social media for years and the publication of this book validates exactly what he preaches – to put yourself out there and live your most authentic life, own it, and keep moving forward. Seeing him live his truest life motivates me to do the same. His book has very thought provoking concepts but is written in a straightforward way that strengthens understanding and increases the ability to relate to your own human experience. Even the smallest, most simplest shift in perspective can have an astounding impact on your life. This book provides just that. Get it. Read it!!

⭐I am only around half way through this book so far and I have to say it is amazing! John is straightforward and inspiring! If you want to grow and you want to live your truth then buy this book! ❤️

⭐I have scanned through and I am so looking forward to delving deeper. I have followed The Angry Therapist for a little while and I love his no bs and kind approach.

⭐Ok

⭐John Kim at his best!
