⭐This book needs to be in every Christian library. In order to understand the Book of Revelation David Chilton demonstrates how you need to let the Bible interpret itself. Three times it is stated that the events of Revelation are going to happen soon. The signs and symbols all come from Old Testament books. One needs to be thoroughly saturated with the books of the Old Testament to grasp the Book of Revelation. David Chilton lays it all out.

⭐In my opinion, this is one of the best and most informative books I’ve found on the Book of Revelation. It came highly recommended by Dr. Scott Hahn in his university based course on the subject

⭐. Dr. Hahn follows a lot of the historical aspects put forth in this book which interprets the timing of the writing of the Book of Revelation and the meaning of this Sacred Scripture as centered around 70AD and the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem. He also follows Chilton’s proposal that the structure of the book is something that resembles the structure of Catholic Mass, the new worship and sacrifice that replaced the temple sacrifices, which Dr. Hahn later put to pen more concisely in his well-known

⭐. David Chilton draws heavily on the rich historical sources that we have from that time, namely Josephus and other Roman figures. I view this as one of the classics written on this book.

⭐Every time I pick this up my mind gets blown. I can only read about 5 pages at a time and then go and think about it for awhile.

⭐This is a comprehensive, readable commentary on the Revelation of Jesus Christ. I wish I read this years ago, it clears up a lot of the confusion surrounding Biblical interpretation.

⭐For those of you who are not part of the defeatist movement that is firmly convinced that we are “The Terminal Generation”… this is the Revelation Commentary you want. It actually explains what every verse of this mysterious book means, in light of how it relates to Old Testament Covenantal analogy. Revelation is not a book of mysterious visions about attack helicopters and apocalyptic wars that end Mankind. It’s about God’s Covenant with Man. This is a must-read book for anyone who has felt the frustration that the great theologian Martin Luther did when he said that Revelation was indecipherable and should be thrown into the river. It’s much more understandable if you let go of false pre-convieved notion concerning what you THINK it is about… and read it in relation to the rest of the Bible. All the mysterious visions have, as the late David Chilton points out, a beautiful analogous reference in the Old Testament.

⭐I was asked? to read this book in my eschatology course in seminary. Everyone in our class was shocked by this book. It is simply the best explanation and commentary of Revelation you will ever read. WARNING: it may change your eschatology forever to the preterist viewpoint. I was particularly fascinated with the explanation of the mystery of the 144,000, the 12 tribes of Israel, the purpose of the ORDER of these tribes, why DAN may have been omitted, etc. But double warning: this isn’t a book you can scan through in 2 hours. Any layperson advanced in biblical studies will appreciate this book. Or seminary students. Others might want to try Paradise Restored first, another book by David Chilton that precedes the writing of this book. Take the challenge all of you who are firmly entrenched in dispensational premillienism (the rapture, etc.)–this book will show you how unbiblical and weak this “new theology” really is.

⭐I have a copy of this book on my Kindle and I appreciate the scholarship and level of learning. This is a great alternative to the garbage dispensational malarkey that is being sold in stores today. Super exposition and well done. I’m gonna keep this one.

⭐In his ‘over the top’ publisher’s preface in 1986, Gary North wrote, “From this time on, there will be only three kinds of commentaries on the Book of Revelation: Those that try to extend Chilton’s; Those that try to refute Chilton’s; Those that pretend there isn’t Chilton’s.””The Day’s of Vengeance” has radically altered the viewpoint of many towards a preterist/postmillennial eschatology, and is still an excellent commentary. However, James B. Jordan’s audio series on the Revelation is the one I believe that has ‘extended’ Chilton’s work. Indeed, Jordan’s work influenced Chilton, but continued study led to these lectures in 1999. There are 204 lectures, which take 144 hours (or 6 days) to listen to. Even though there is some helpful repetition, I listened to some of the lectures more than once to let the pattern of thought sink in. The time investment is well worth it, as he goes much deeper than Chilton into the Old Testament allusions and the structure of the Old Creation, sweeping over the entire Bible and demonstrating how it culminates in the Revelation better than anyone I have read or heard. His approach relies much less on Josephus and substantially more on the Old Testament than Chilton did. Chilton’s work is still a groudbreaking introduction to this subject, but Jordan’s lectures will open your eyes all over again.James Jordan’s “Revelation” lectures are available from […]
