⭐If you are a conservative, believing in the inspiration of the scriptures, avoid this book! Unless you want to study writers that do not truly believe Moses wrote the Pentateuch. And the other books? Well, they just don’t know. These guys are all over the landscape on this matter. They use a lot of liberal theological textual criticism ideas, outdated ideas and 18th-century viewpoints (JEPD) which have been refuted scholastically. It is hard for me to believe this modern book is actually being used in some schools as a theologically evangelistic education tool. IT IS NOT! What is interesting, is that the companion book to this one, which covers the New Testament, is very good! (Of course it was authored by two different scholars.) If you are a historical Bible-believing Jew or Christian and hold to the absolute authority of the scriptures, I do not recommend this book for you. Unlike the sub-title says, It is neither a “Christian” nor a Jewish survey!! But, If you are a relativistic liberal where nothing matters and all things are what you or anybody else wants them to be, knock your socks off!

⭐This is a text book being read for an Old Testament Foundations class. The book started out kind of confusing and tough to read, but quickly turned into a well organized and very useful book.

⭐Excellent quality, nice paper, pictures are interesting. A good review of Biblical history. It was an assigned text for a BibleInstitute class. I’m glad to have it in my library.

⭐Brilliant if you want to know Old Testament values and learn about Old Testament living

⭐Thin volume and easy to read. It perfunctorily covers scholarly criticisms or refutes liberal viewpoints, though this is okay because this is not the book’s objective. Literary analysis could also have some more meat but hey this is a basic introduction.

⭐As someone who loves history, this book was fun to get into. I needed this book for an Old Testament course I was taking. This book helped guide me though the history of the OT and learn a lot of background information that I did not previously know. I’d suggest it. It also has lots of pictures and diagrams to keep you interested.
