On the evening of Sofia Claremont’s seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake. A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.

She is kidnapped to The Shade, an enchanted island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine – an island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia’s life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is selected out of hundreds of girls to take up residence in the tree-top harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? Or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ Despite its many issues, I enjoyed the twilight books. So when I saw reviews that claimed this story was even better, I ordered a copy right away, wanting to emerse myself in a great story. Only to be severely disappointed. First off, it looks like it was written for 11 or 12 year olds (although I wouldn’t let my 11 of 12 year old read it). The book is 286 pages, but each page is typed in large font, double spaced, within huge margins. It would probably condense to only 30 or 40 pages if printed like a normal book. Most chapters are only a few pages, or a few short paragraphs. Very limited storytelling. There is no substance to this book. Very little scene or plot development. The characters are bland and not very likeable, and even contradict themselves. Sofia at the beginning of the book is an entirely different person from the Sofia in The Shade, and for no special reason at all. She went from being plain and of little consequence, with deep anxiety issues, to being a stunning beauty with great strength and empathy? Really? The writing itself is grammatically poor, one dimensional, and difficult to read. It looks like the book was self published, so lacks professional editing, which is painfully noticeable. And please explain how a vampire who was asleep for the past 400 years isn’t experiencing some sort of culture shock, and is able to easily communicate in modern dialogue, and knows how to dress himself in modern clothes?I gave it two stars because I read the whole thing (in a very short amount of time) because I did want to find out what happens. The story had potential, if you can get past the Stockholm’s Syndrome issue, but it was poorly executed. Unfortunately, when you get to the end of the 286 “pages” there is no ending to the story in this book. It doesn’t even end at a good stopping point.I was left thinking, “That’s it? I spent money for a full book and got only a portion of a full book. And now I have to spend more money to buy who knows how many more books to possibly get to any conclusion?”Nope. I’m not going down that path. The story didn’t hook me enough, and I can’t read more of the bland characters and poor dialogue. I need substance.

⭐ I too bought because of the good reviews. This story reads so much like a bad fanfiction, that I wonder how all those reviews could be genuine. It has bland characters and hardly any plot. It’s one of the worst books I’ve ever read.

⭐ Absolutely horrible writing! Do not waste your time. The book sounds like someone telling a story to their friends while throwing in ‘big’ words to sound smart. The author has no feel for the reader’s knowledge with frequent repetitions of information. The protagonist once calls the vampire, who she ‘just’ found out was 500 years old a ‘young man’. Horrible book, do not believe the 5 star paid reviews. Google this author and you will that she is on a list of unethical authors due to the amount of paid reviews.

⭐ I finished reading this book just becase it counts as one more book read in my Good Reads 2018 challenge. I did not find anything in it worth reading or worth recommending it by. If you like the REAL vampire stories (Dracula, Carmilla, Interview with the Vampire, etc), do not waste your time reading this book. In my opinion it is a silly love story where the characters happen to be vampires.

⭐ I picked this up since it was compared to Harry Potter. How dare they!

⭐ So, I read the entire book over the course of a day–it is extremely short. At the end of the book the author notes that the following books in the series are much longer. I think, simply because of the number of books the author has written in this series I already had prepared myself that it was going to be a quick read. This book has an incredible number of readers and reviewers, I wanted to see what it was all about and in a way I am glad that I did. Young Adult romance books are my guilty pleasure, they are generally quick and easily digested and sometimes I need that. This book was perfect for that. I am going to continue the series for the time, simply because… guilty pleasure. There are some pretty great buildups in this first book for something that could become greater if Forrest continues to broaden the world that she has created and fills in information about the characters. Right now, having just read the first book, there are a lot of holes and shallowness to everything. I think something is going to pick up in the second book, though, that was a good hanger for us readers with regards to the end of the very last chapter. If you’ve read this book, you know what I mean… and if you haven’t read it yet…. keep your eyes out for it.

⭐ After reading a lot of Contemporary Romance novels I was looking for something different to read. I was browsing through Amazon when I saw ‘A Shade of Vampire’. First of all I loved that cover, and secondly I really like vampire stories so I decided to buy this book. After I read the book descriptions and a view reviews I got super excited about this one and started reading as soon as possible. In ‘A Shade of Vampire’ we meet Sofia Claremont. Sofia’s life has never been easy, but she has a best friend that makes her days’ worth while. On the day of her 17th birthday, Sofia gets kidnapped and finds herself in a world she never imagined would be real: an Island filled with vampires. And Sofia is send to the most powerful vampire of them all: Derek Novak. Now Sofia is a slave, and her days are spend thinking of ways to escape. But there is something about Derek Sofia doesn’t want to admit. He has a kindness over him and somehow she feels safe with him.I didn’t really knew what to expect when I started reading ‘A Shade of Vampire’. I was fascinated by the book descriptions and several reviews, but I hadn’t read a lot of paranormal romance stories lately and didn’t know if this book would feel too ‘immature’ for me. Thankfully, I found myself being hooked to the pages from the very first moment. The fact that I didn’t know what to expect made this book even better. I obviously hoped for a romance between Sofia and Derek, but I didn’t know if I would get that. And when I did, I felt absolutely giddy.‘A Shade of Vampire’ is a very short novel that makes you want to read the other books in the series right away. Although there is still a lot I don’t quiet understand, I loved this book and devoured the pages. Both main characters Sofia and Derek where really fun to read about and I loved that this book was written through both point of views. And I definitely loved Derek’s character the most.Even though the romance between Sofia and Derek seemed a little strange and sudden, I totally felt their romance. I didn’t think it was strange or odd at all and I found myself excited to read the next book. As a vampire book lover myself, I’m surprised that I have not heard about this book before. I definitely loved it, and need to start reading book two ASAP.

⭐ *spoiler alert* Sofia Claremont has been in love with Ben Hudson since his family took her in after her father left her with them, but,of course, Ben just thinks of them as best friends. When the whole family goes to Cancun for vacation, Sofia gets kidnapped by Lucas (a vampire) while walking on the beach back to her hotel on her seventh birthday. She was found to be given to the vampire, Prince Derek for his harem. When he awakes his brother Lucas and his sister Vivienne has five girls waiting for him. But his attention was drawn to Sofia right from the start, because she showed him compassion, and he picked her for his personal slave.Soon enough he was showing her how to protect herself from vampires, because she was “his girl”, his link to humanity. He goes to check on her one morning and finds her crouched in a corner with a fist full of blond hair and all he can smell is blood. The bathroom door was ajar so he went to see what happened and found Sofia’s friend Gwen murdered and in the bathtub drained of blood. He is furious but is more worried about Sofia and takes her to the witch Corrine to heal her and then he finds out that she is also bleeding. Her back had been clawed, so he feeds her his blood to heal her. He then leaves her to Corrine to take care of her and find out what happened, but she would not tell for fear of Lucas killing the other girls that were with her.Claudia had a meeting with Derek and she brought her slave, and it was Ben. Derek asked Claudia to give Ben to him as a gift for Sofia since he was her best friend. Derek thought that he had lost Sofia so he went for a walk to calm down. When he got back he found his body guards on the floor and they told him that Sofia and Ben were in the sun room. WhereSofia found out that Claudia treated him horribly. That’s when Derek ran into the room and found Ben on the floor and Sofia being attacked and bitten by Lucas. Sofia talked Derek into letting him go and he decided to let Ben and Sofia go as well. However, she told him that she didn’t want to leave him and that she was in love with him and he loved her and they kissed. However, Lucas did not count on Derek finding out about what he was doing with Sofia and his killing Gwen.

⭐ Good series. I was into this series for several books. At one point I almost quit reading when the dragons made an appearance. I stuck with it, but only until about book 25-26. The story line got extremely stupid at that point. I understand this is a made up world of fabulous gifted people. I have always been drawn to the “Super Natural” story line. However, the “Zombie” thing and the granddaughter being “infected” got really stupid. I gave up on the series at that point.

⭐ A Shade of VampireBella ForrestCover Design- Simple but intriguing. I flipped it over to read the back blurb. It sounded promising. The cover didn’t really jump out at me. Had I not seen the sponsored add, I doubt I’d have ever read the books blurb. 2 stars.Character Development- Bella Forrest describes her characters as you meet them. Dorian’s seventeen and unexciting. She’s described in a way that you find nothing great about her. In some ways she will appeal to the reader and even may be someone some readers can identify with. Derek is pale creature who drinks blood. He’s your normal vampire. There is nothing about him that most other vampires don’t have. Vampire novels are a dime a dozen. For the characters to be new and unique they need to be more than a pale fast vampire. 2 starsConcept-Bella Forrest’s concept was unusual. Her vampires live in a place called The Shade, an island where the sun doesn’t shine. Her vampire prince kidnaps Sofia who eventually joins his harem. Sofia comes to find she’s safer in his quarters over anywhere else. Considering this vampire has a harem, which is ridiculous in this day and age. 1 StarPlot/Sub-Plot- The plot of A Shade of Vampire is dull for the most part. Thankfully book one isn’t very long. Maybe that was a good thing, maybe it was bad. Tin many ways I found the plot repetitive to other vampire novels. I’ve read. The subplot, the developing love between Sofia and Derek is the only appealing part of this book. She manages to break through Derek’s barriers to show him love is better than a harem. 1 starEntertainment Level- Was I entertained with this book? Not really I couldn’t wait to finish it. Things began to pick up as I got to the end. It was like Bella Forest had finally figured out what she want4ed to write and suddenly ended the story. 2 starsall together I give book one 2 stars
