Description

A Theory of Adaptation explores the continuous development of creative adaptation, and argues that the practice of adapting is central to the story-telling imagination. Linda Hutcheon develops a theory of adaptation through a range of media, from film and opera, to video games, pop music and theme parks, analysing the breadth, scope and creative possibilities within each. This new edition is supplemented by a new preface from the author, discussing both new adaptive forms/platforms and recent critical developments in the study of adaptation. It also features an illuminating new epilogue from Siobhan O’Flynn, focusing on adaptation in the context of digital media. She considers the impact of transmedia practices and properties on the form and practice of adaptation, as well as studying the extension of game narrative across media platforms, fan-based adaptation (from Twitter and Facebook to home movies), and the adaptation of books to digital formats.A Theory of Adaptation is the ideal guide to this ever evolving field of study and is essential reading for anyone interested in adaptation in the context of literary and media studies.

⭐Very useful in our Class on Shakespeare Adaptations.

⭐I am studying it for my course at the University. It is a good source.

⭐good

⭐Used it as my theoretical framework for my senior thesis. Great layout, easy to understand, and presents a vast knowledge of the histories behind adaptation!

⭐Good

⭐Like a fellow reviewer, I too write my BA on two adaptations and this book was recommended to me by a fellow student. It’s well written and very well researched. Hutcheon mentions the most important aspects of adaptations, she works with well known examples of adapted texts (e.g. Carmen, the Star Wars movies) to illustrate her points and in this newer edition from 2013 with an added epilogue by Siobhan O’Flynn brings a perspective on more recent developments and possibilities in terms of adaptation into the text, citing the potential of the internet and new media.I warmly recommend this book to anyone who has some interest in adaptation or in fact, in story telling in general, as the book covers literature, film, stage performances, videogames and even theme parks.

⭐Very good starting point to get into adaptation studies. I wrote my bachelor’s thesis on an adaptation and the adapted work and this book really helped me along the way, especially since the references in the back give you a huge range of suggestions for further, more in-depth reading. I’m sure I’ll be going back to this if I ever have to deal with adaptations again.

⭐Fundamental para estudiantes de Literatura, Ciencias de la Comunicación, Cine y Guionista. Edición actualizada sobre transmedia. Adaptación: proceso y producto final. ¿Quienes son adaptadores?Prompt delivery. As described.
