Description
It has long been assumed that the more modern we become, the less religious we will be. Yet a recent resurrection in faith has challenged the certainty of this belief. In these original essays and interviews, leading hermeneutical philosophers and postmodern theorists John D. Caputo and Gianni Vattimo engage with each other’s past and present work on the subject and reflect on our transition from secularism to postsecularism. As two of the figures who have contributed the most to the theoretical reflections on the contemporary philosophical turn to religion, Caputo and Vattimo explore the changes, distortions, and reforms that are a part of our postmodern faith and the forces shaping the religious imagination today. Incisively and imaginatively connecting their argument to issues ranging from terrorism to fanaticism and from politics to media and culture, these thinkers continue to reinvent the field of hermeneutic philosophy with wit, grace, and passion.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐I am not a member of the Hegel-left or the Hegel-right. I am riding the dead horse of the “Hegelian -center”; but have an appreciation for insights from either extreme. I have become a Caputo fan. He articulates a leftist hermeneutic of “event” with regard to Hegel, but maintains a Christian stance. He is one of the emerging Christian-atheists. He articulates matters in basically a Moltmannian way where his hermeneutic is really an “eschatological” hermeneutics. Deconstruction simply strips the historical moment of its contingency and right-slanted interpretations to reveal its true event-core; which cannot be frozen conceptually. I appreciate the insights from the left; and I strongly recommend Caputo.
⭐It was a decent book, but it would have been better to show two thinkers of divergent views. It felt like the difference between Caputo and Vattimo was one of nuance rather than actual ideological disagreement
⭐I think that it is a very profound dialogue on the true meaning of the faith in a world confused about politics, religion and secolarization.
