Stephen Leather is the author of Private Dancer, the best-selling cult novel about the Bangkok bar scene. Before that, he was employed as a biochemist for ICI, shovelled limestone in a quarry, worked as a baker, a petrol pump attendant, a barman, and worked for the Inland Revenue. ⭐ One subject area I’ve tended to avoid on Amazon is erotic fiction, not because I’m offended by the subject (which I’m definitely not), but because I am offended by trite, juvenile writing, and I don’t want to wade through “Letters to Penthouse Magazine” quality material. However, I did read (and enjoy) some of Stephen Leather’s short stories recently, and he mentioned in his other story collection that “Banging Bill’s Wife” was available for free, so curiosity got the better of me. I’m glad it did.The narrator protagonist of “Bill” is a British investment banker in the Far East who has some time on his hands because he’s just changed jobs and can’t begin working for his new employer for a while due to a noncompete clause. So, he spends his free time in Bangkok, partaking of the women who are easily available there. As his free time is winding down, he sees an ad on Craigslist in which a man (the titular Bill) offers to make his wife available for, as delicately as I can put this, a group get together with a number of men while Bill watches. The narrator responds to the ad, which is legitimate, and has a rather memorable evening, even though he and the other men at the party are wearing masks.After the narrator starts his new job, he begins fixating more and more on that night. Then, to his surprise, he meets Bill and his wife again at a business function, and, in a much bigger surprise, he learns a lot more about the couple from a coworker. Telling more would spoil the story, but I can say that the couple’s story was unlike anything I was expecting.Based on this description, a reader might think “Bill’s Wife” is merely smutty fiction with a twist ending. It’s much more than that. The story is a very good piece of dramatic fiction that isn’t merely about a bizarre sexual encounter. Instead, Leather has the narrator describe his reaction to discovering the truth, and that comes as a surprise as well. The entire story serves to reveal a good bit about the personality of the narrator, which proves to have more depth than a reader might think at the beginning of the story.”Bill’s Wife” is definitely not a story for everyone’s tastes. Stephen Leather specializes in hard nosed action stories, and his descriptions of the actual encounter are blunt, crude, nearly clinical, and not in the least erotic. Obviously, anyone offended by this subject matter is unlikely to be reading this story, but the language broke the mood of the piece a bit for me as well. On the other hand, those wanting a story that’s chock full of sizzling eroticism may be disappointed as well. The level of eroticism in the story is really beside the point, though. It’s not the action in “Bill’s Wife” that’s important; it’s the narrator’s reaction that’s the key to the story.I read “Bill’s Wife” out of curiosity, but I came away impressed with Stephen Leather’s versatility once again. This author seemingly can write in any genre and make a story interesting. It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s written a fascinating cookbook somewhere along the line. It would be a disservice to describe “Bill’s Wife” as quality erotic fiction; it’s a very good story that transcends any genre label.

⭐ This is a well-composed, enjoyable, suspenseful tale with a surprise ending. It is free for kindle users.A successful stock and bond broker has a three-month required vacation between jobs and decides to use the time to enjoy sex to the maximum. He starts by paying for sex, but gets tired of it after a month. He finds that he can get free sex off of Craig’s List and enjoys it until he again tires of it after a month. Then he sees an ad on the internet. A man is looking for a group of men to have prolonged sex with his wife, group-sex for hours. He finds that the man is legitimate and agrees. He has the greatest sex ever and looks forward to seeing the couple again so that the can do so again. All of the participants in the orgy were required to wear mask, so he can’t find them. Then he sees them again and discovers startling facts that changes his life forever.

⭐ The story ending was stupid but I really don’t read these for the riveting story.

⭐ I liked the book the guy was a financial broker and he made very good money and enjoyed sex. He used Craigslist to find free sex in Bangkok and one day he found an ad to do some bodies wife with five other people. He was interested, and had the time of his life, during a three month vac from his job.

⭐ It never really took off and nothing about it makes it memorable. I had to think hard whether or not I read it, and found I had. It obviously left no impression on me at all.

⭐ Written in the first person point of view, a man works for bond companies in Southeast Asia. He becomes bored with his life of sex for money and free sex. He looks for something different. He finds it on the internet when a man advertises for men to have sex with his wife. He is captivated by the wife then learns her story. This book was different than what I expected. It is well written, tightly crafted. Good first person development. While he’s not someone I’d like to know, you get an excellent picture of who he is and what makes him tick. Interesting ending.

⭐ Erotic shorts are not Stephen’s forte

⭐ Couldn’t get into it. Put reader down and came back to it the next day to give it 2nd chance a day later. It didn’t work. Not so sure if it was the style of writting or the storyline. M

⭐ Not bad but not great. Got it for free so it was a nice read. Would recommend it but not for anything over $2.00. Will read more of author’s books.
