⭐ First Sigma Force read for me. Bought it originally due to presence of CAPT Tucker Wayne and his war dog partner, Kane. Was delighted to see the inclusion of a short story, “Tracker” at the end and read that first as an appetizer. Then on to the main course! Began the.story and wanted to try to finish in one seating. Size of book and other considerations kept me from doing that but I kept the story in mind as I laid the book down, each time leaving one or another of the multiple protagonists in dire straits. The action is fast-paced and without much letup. The prologue of the book gives a subtle hint of the main secret of the story which does not become clear until the end of the book. After the the prologue, Rollins introduces a teaser which stays in the mind of the reader as he/she follows the ensuing maze of excitement. There are some very rough descriptions as the author juxtaposes ethics/morality against the singleminedness of the scientific search for knowledge. I was both horrified and facinated at the science of trying to extend human life toward immortality. As is often the case, the ultimate goal is control of power by the chosen few. A darn good read and only the first of many Sigma Force novels I plan to inhale.

⭐ After reading both The Doomsday Key and The Devil Colony this summer I must say that this book is a spectacular ride from start to finish. The book starts off with the kidnapping of the presidents pregant daugther Amanda With only a few weeks before the arrival of her newborn, Amanda is feeling anything but bliss. After discovering her husband’s infertility, Amanda undergoes the grueling process of in vitro fertilization. A couple miscarriages later, she finally carries a healthy child. Despite all of this, she and her husband are fleeing for their lives. A few weeks ago, she received anonymous notification, indicating that the life of her child was threatened. Now, off the coast of Africa, the couple is aboard a yacht, fleeing for the safety of their child. Under the cover of darkness, a group of Somali pirates hijacks the ship, killing the crew, her husband, and kidnapping the pregnant Amanda. This story alone would be enough to capture American headlines, but there is one more detail that makes this an even bigger story. Amanda is the daughter of the President of the United States!Sigma, a secretive US military group, is tasked with finding the kidnapped Amanda. Gray Pierce, field leader of the covert team, is dealing with problems of his own. ⭐ James Rollins has done it again!I’ve enjoyed James Rollins books since first discovering Deep Fathom, over a decade ago. He’s quickly become a “must buy” for me. I really enjoy the bonds between the members of Sigma, and I’ve looked forward to this book with bated breath for months now.Mr. Rollins left some interesting questions at the end of his last book (Last year’s excellent The Devil Colony), and he doesn’t shirk the emotional fallout in Bloodline.A mysterious Templar Knight rescues a staff from a man much older than he ought to be. But this knight is not all she appears–and she leaves no witnesses.Then we jump to modern day. A young pregnant American woman is kidnapped, her husband brutally murdered by Somali prates. But this woman isn’t your average tourist, though she’s traveling on a fake passport. She’s the president’s daughter and she and her baby could be used to leverage all sorts of unspeakable things. What do the kidnappers want with her? Is it money? Are political machinations afoot?Sigma is brought in to find the woman and extract her. And the story is off to an explosive start. As Gray, Kowalski, and Seichan search for answers, Painter is unraveling a mystery of the Guild, Sigma’s greatest enemy. Though I figured out the true power behind the kidnapping, there was a subplot featuring one of the characters that came as an absolute shock to me. I can’t wait to see how Mr. Rollins addresses that in the next book.The addition of new characters Tucker and Kane was seamless. I loved seeing the action unfold through Kane’s point of view, and the bond between them was almost a tangible thing! I loved that both Kat and Lisa were in the field at the same location, yet they had such vastly different experiences. I loved seeing Painter having to deal with the upper echelons of government and justifying Sigma’s role in the rescue op.And I loved that Mr. Rollins dropped a few Easter Eggs in for readers–the mention, or appearance, of characters who starred in past books.The resolution brought up even more questions, and I’m very eager to learn more.At times, Bloodline reminded me a bit (in theme) of Steve Berry’s Jefferson Key. There were some interesting parallels, including parts of the action occurring in the Carolinas. The books are completely different in feel and execution, but it was something that was definitely noticeable.Mix science and action, add a sprinkle of exciting locales, and mix well with fantastic characterization, and you have the perfect summer novel. James Rollins has another winner here!

⭐ I think so. Not only that, I think this may be Rollin’s best novel PERIOD. That’s saying a lot considering his litany of well written page turners.When the president’s daughter is kidnapped off the coast of Africa, Sigma Force is called in to rescue her. It’s not just that Amanda Gant is the president’s daughter though. She’s carrying precious cargo: her unborn son. Questions are raised. Why is a nearly full term mother on a boat off the coast of Africa? Who would want to kidnap her? The answers to those questions are expertly revealed over the course of this tightly plotted and addictive page turner of a thriller. And those answers lead to a plot that goes much deeper than what it seems on the surface.As is usual with the Sigma Force novels (and any Rollins book for that matter), the reader is lead on a continent spanning, technological thrill ride. From the coast of Africa, to Dubai, back to the Blue Ridge Mountains, Rollins writes a riveting and frighteningly factual based techno thriller filled with fantastic characterization, well researched facts and edge-of-your-seat action. Quite simply, NOBODY does this type of book better. Rollins is good, scary good, and this latest offering is just another testament to that fact, another feather in the cap of a thriller master that’s second to none. One that I’m happy to say I’m a fan of and have been a fan of ever since I picked up that copy of Subterranean in a used book store more than ten years ago.All the usuals are back, plus a few welcomed additions AND some old friends fans of Rollins should recognize. One of my favorite aspects of the book, as well as in the series as a whole as of late, is the character development of Seichan. Rollins has taken large steps into making her more than just the cold as ice assassin and unlikely compatriot of Gray Peirce and his Sigma team. She’s becoming more human and as a result, more interesting. Two newcomers, Tucker and Kane are welcomed additions to the series and I hope to see more of them in the future. Painter Crowe, Lisa Cummings, Kat Bryant, Monk and the ever fun Kowalski are all back with their true to character voices and personalities and as usual, are just plain great to read.Kudos to Mr. Rollins for writing another riveting action/thriller/mystery. I can’t even imagine the hours that went into just researching the varying types of tech and lore and myth that went into writing Bloodlines. It’s staggering just to think about.FANTASTIC! For fans of the series, you won’t want to miss this one. And for newcomers? Go back to the beginning and read ’em all! You’ll likely be as addicted to them in short fashion!

⭐ For several years now, James Rollins has been one of those go-to authors for me. It’s not that he hasn’t written a few stinkers, but, in general, his books are well written, fast-paced, interesting summer reads that meld science and religion. In particular, his Sigma Force novels have been my favorite.Bloodline is his most recent Sigma Force novel. In Bloodline, hero Gray Pierce is on the hunt for the president’s pregnant daughter who has been kidnapped by pirates off the coast of Africa. But what seems like a simple kidnapping turns out to be something much darker as a shadowy organization seeks to use the baby to further its own genetic experimentation into the area of DNA and mortality.At the heart of the experiment is the staff of Moses, a staff later carried by Christ and then others through history.Before I started the novel, I read a summary that mentioned the staff of Moses and I was intrigued immediately, but the staff actually only makes a small, brief appearance in the novel and the religious elements in this novel are underwhelming.Think about Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Indiana Jones is a man of science, really, when you think about it. He’s an archeologist. He operates in the world of fact, what he can see versus what he can’t. But in both movies, two religious artifacts behave in ways that are completely unexplainable.And ultimately, I think that is what Bloodline is missing.Even so, the book remained one I couldn’t put down.

⭐ This is the sequel to Devil Colony and the sequel to Tracker, which is a short story. Both come together in this book.James Rollins has the technique and skill to grab you immediately in the first few pages. He makes you want to read more and Bloodline does not disappoint. I always learn something in hisnovels on top of the great story that keeps you turning pages.What I thought was better about this book are the 2 new characters, Tucker and Kane, from Tracker. They were the mortar for this story and Mr. Rollins did a wonderful job using them tobind the story line together. I cared what happened to them above all else. After all that they have done for this country, they deserve the best.I enjoyed re-meeting some of the characters from earlier books, sort of like a family reunion, with all of them still improving their characters. Also I have always liked the introduction of great secondary characters with wonderful skills that compliment the story line and add fresh ideas.The only one I had trouble with was Seichan. How many times has she assassinated good men, tried to kill Gray repeatedly, but now, all is forgiven and she’s on our side? Sorry, hard for me to believe especially after the length of time she’s been a villain and all the evil she has committed. I have no affinity for her or her character. And I think Gray has been through enough and has done enough, that he really doesn’t need to take on this ex-assassin, with all her baggage. Even the character calls herself “broken”. There has to be better female characters or I should say, a worthy female character, for Gray. He deserves better.Don’t miss this book, another great read by a gifted author.

⭐ Rollins isa good writer, make no mistake about that. And the man can write any genre he so chooses. Bloodline is clear evidence of that. If there’s a flaw in Bloodline, it’s that it’s medical thriller, sci-fi, tech, military thriller, medical thriller, and a few more tossed in just for fun. I enjoy a good, fast-paced read; and that’s the problem with Bloodline. it’s a good read, but it’s too many genre’s skipping around from place to place and genre to genre to be a great read.

⭐ There have been other reviews of sigma novels where the fans are complaining that the stories have become routine. This novel is anything but. I will not write about any big spoilers, but will give some basics.The Guild play a big part of this novel, and the reader gets a chance to learn much more about them. The beginning of novel picks back up within weeks of the Devil Colony. Grey is dealing with the loss of his mother, and Painter is working on his one man investigation of the family he belives is the head of the guild, the Gant family, as in the president James Gant (not a spoiler, this was at the end of Devil Colony). We find out the guild ultimate goal, and the lengths they are going to achive it, which is even worse than you thought. But the real truth, and what puppertmaster pulls the strings was a great shock. I couldn’t read fast enough to find out more.This book also introduces 2 new characters, Tucker and Kane. Captain Tucker Wayne and his military war dog Kane are called in to help with sigmas mission and I love them. They were originally introduced in the short story Tracker (very good, you should read it 1st). Before the story I knew nothing about war dogs, and now I want to learn everything. The bond and relationship bewteen the dog and his handler is amazing, and as close as family. Tucker states in the book that Kane does not belong to him and you can tell. The 2 stay together out of loyalty and love for each other. Rollins also occasionally tells the story from Kanes poibt of view, which is weird, but still works. I hope we see more of them. They should have their own series as far as I am concerned.Other Charaters: Kowalski is here, and love him or hate him (just like the Sigma team) he brings some needed comedy to the story, but not too much. Monk and Kat are here, but we get Kat most of the time which is great. I kinda missed her. Monk stays in the background most of the time. Jack Kirkland from Deep Fathom (if any of you read that book by Rollins) also makes and appearance. His part was brief and we do not really get into his storry. Of course Grey and Seichan are here too, and the chemistry between them is amazing, but a part of me wants to see Grey with his old love Rachel.Overall, one of the best in the series if not the best. Can’t wait for the next book, and hopefully we will not have too wait for a year, again.

⭐ Blood Line by James Rollins is a new addition to the Sigma series. It is as good as the rest of them, but not quite as fast and furious as maybe “Ice Hunt”. I have read all in the series and gradually Sigma and Seichan are losing their mystery, they are becoming predictable and that affects the suspense, because you start expecting them to behave a certain way, and when they do, you are a little disappointed. New additions Tucker and his partner, the war dog Kane are refreshing. Kane is trained to do all sorts of things that come in handy, but can also think on his own when necessary. Tucker, his handler, is kind, unless he needs to be otherwise. Kowalski is along to blow things up, which he really enjoys and makes it fun for everyone. The story moves fast and takes the reader to interesting places from the horrors of African war zones to the wealth of the Abu Dai.Perhaps what I liked best was the way the ladies fought back instead of just waiting around to be rescued, and that they weren’t dainty or nice about the whole thing.The storyline itself is plausible though somewhat incredible and follows the Templar Knights theme of ancient cults and secrets with a new twist to keep it exciting. Good reading,

⭐ Seriously, my back went out, so I was forced to spend my Sunday relaxing, legs elevated, reading Bloodline. I’m better. Now, about the book. Rollins takes us on another amazing journey through several exotic locations around the world, including Washington DC and Seychelles (can anyone tell me how to pronounce that, I don’t even know.)This tale is woven as intricately as any Rollins I have read to date… I love the history and science that Rollins uses to keep us engrossed, helping us realize the true significance and consequence of unethically applied technology. The horror starts with the first chapter and never lets up.Painter and Gray are unquestionably two of the best minds, grasping the missing pieces with no time to spare, swiftly realized solutions applied. The action never ceases as the relentless dangerous situations hit you like a battering ram.The fear for the personal safety of the characters will leave you breathless. Thankfully many have talent and self reliance to spare.Heroic, awesome and courageous Kane will steal your heart, and your weapon if you are evil.I love the read, I was sorry when it was over and am so looking forward to the next Sigma adventure.WARING…BEST LINE IN THE BOOK SPOILER…Kowalski reporting “I’m crapping my pants!” I laughed so hard at this tension breaker, I almost wrenched my back again.
