Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐The manual that comes with the Canon EOS 7D tells you how to do everything, so it is a great reference. However this Dummie book really helps in sorting out how and when to use the myriad of features. If you need some refreshing of photographic concepts and how to achieve eye-catching photos with instruction specific to this camera, this book is great. I now carry both this and the owner’s manual in my camera case.
⭐I had just bought the Canon EOS 7D and was due to shoot a wedding in about two weeks. I ordered Doug Sahlin’s book and a quick read through got me shooting in no time flat and now I am studing this book to really get to know my camera. Doug writes in a way we can all understand, instead of the too technical verbage in the book that comes with the camera and never really has enough info and really does make you feel like a dummy. Doug’s explainations are clear and consice and even has humor sprinkled throughout! I love Doug’s books and if you have this camera, get this book. Also Doug and his soulmate, Roxanne,(also a great photographer) have a web site that is wonderful, gives useful tips and tricks as well.
⭐I have a Canon EOS 7d that I use to take pictures of my family with. I love my camera and my hobby. This book really just explains how to use the bare minimum of this camera. How to turn it on, change batteries, add a timer.. etc.Things that really I believe the manual could teach you. As a advanced / Intermediate photographer I would not recommend this book. But… If you just purchased a Canon 7d and you have a hard time understanding technology then this book goes into details on the basics of your camera, and could really help you. Also a great deal, this book sells for 30.00 at Barnes and Noble.
⭐Some of it was a bit too basic but the author is covering the bases and doesn’t assume any previous knowledge. That was god because everyone will find their starting point eventually and nothing is missed. The 7D is a serious piece of kit and you need a book like this to get the most out of it. I did a massive leap from the 60D to the 7D and the difference was mind boggling!. I reference this book all the time and it is SO much easier to understand than the puny manual you get with the camera. It is worth the investment.
⭐I was looking for a book that would give me clear instructions for understanding and accessing the features of the 7D and this book (I have the Kindle edition) does this reasonably well. However, I found some aspects of the book annoying. While describing different camera functions the text will occasionally read “Your camera may…..” and then state some functionality or option the camera may or may not have. For example, in the section on metering modes, the author states “Your camera may have the option to spot-meter where the autofocus frame is.” Well, does it or doesn’t it??? The whole reason I bought the book was to learn what the 7d is capable of, not what it MIGHT be capable of!!!!! It looks like the author sometimes merged the content specific to the 7d with other content written more generically for digital cameras. There are occasional other inaccuracies in the text that make things a little bit confusing. For example, the text instructions for accessing the mirror lockup controls say the controls are on screen 3 they are actually on screen 13. The 7d has a lot of functionality, and understanding and accessing it can sometimes get confusing, especially for us “dummies” so I wish the author had put a bit more effort into proofing the content.
⭐I am a complete newbie when it comes to photography. People told me I should have started out with a Rebel and not the 7D like I did but oh well. The book is great, it break everything down step by step. You learn to do everything from the auto features to using it manually. It also teaches you how to use the canon software which is handy since I don’t think I’m quite ready for photoshop. The author also includes pictures so I can reassure myself I’m doing everything correctly. On a few of the things I had to go back and reread the directions, but other than that I have no complaints. It’s helped me use my 7D much better!
⭐REVIEW OF CANON 7D FOR DUMMIES (paperback)Very good introduction to what can be a very complex camera. Explains the basics as well as the more advanced features. Lots of colour illustrations.Sold by vibbon: Copy was in pristine condition and arrived quickly.
⭐This book does what it says on the cover and starts assuming you know nothing. Fair enough but if you have bought a 7D, the chances are you have owned a camera before. The author writes very well but the whole book is a bit perfunctory; it turns into a list of items rather than a story – perhaps that is inenvitable. The book gives a run down of the main things you need to know to take photos but there are several proofing errors which, for dummies, could be confusing, and the coverage of custom menu items is light. The book is way better than the supplied manual (the binding falls apart with the first use) and more entertaining but only 3 stars because of the earlier comments.
⭐I am very disappointed with this book in that I bought the Kindle version, so that I could easily access it, particularly when travelling, only to find that it is next to useless. On a tablet the diagrams are so small they are almost impossible to read and even if you increase the size of the font, it does not increase the size of the photographs or diagrams. The book, no doubt is helpful but without being able to easily see any relevant diagrams a waste of money, especially as the paperback version is less than £2.00 more. Unless I am missing something and there is a way to increase the size of the pictures, do not waste your money on the Kindle version.
⭐Well written, easy to follow and great for those using this camera for the first time; with info for beginners to those already familiar with digital SLR’s who probably haven’t used all the features available. it explains very well the in-depth menu options and the tips are useful as a quick reminder on what to / not to do.
⭐A great book whether you are a beginner or experienced. It leads the reader through the basicis of the 7d and alows you to explore the camera. Evern experienced photographers will find ita useful refresher.
