Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I haven’t used cliff notes since the seventies but I thought I would need them for “the Inferno “. Surprisingly Dante is very readable but the cliff notes have deepened my understanding of what was happening in the 1300s and the references to writers etc back then has been so helpful.

⭐Great overview to read slowly in a couple of hours. A friend of mine (a published Oxford poet, with two earned doctorates in Literature) when asked told me that the Inferno was a “tough read.” Well, I thought if he can’t do it, I had better get some help by getting the lay of the book as a whole. It worked for me.

⭐It is a treat from a historical, philosophical, theological and moral perspective. It is true joy to read. The summaries and commentaries on each Canto are extremely well thought out and written.

⭐I used this version for a college humanities class. It’s good to read before each canto because it gives you a good idea about what is goin on. This book does give you some back ground, which is good, but it is a better aid for leisure reading than for academic study. We are currently reading the translation by Anthony Esolen and I find the notes his book to be more in-depth and more useful for the class. Might be a better source for high school students?

⭐Still a bit complicated but gives a better understanding to The Divine Comedy

⭐I bought this to go through before reading Dan Brown’s Inferno to refresh my mind regarding Dante’s original. I like the background information about Dante himself.

⭐Very helpful with my studies, assisted greatly with my final paper. I got an excellent grade with the aid of the cliff notes

⭐The Divine Comedy is a really well written, although sometimes excessively wordy and detailed piece of work. Before undertaking the original version—I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Cliff Notes. It will make the original piece far more valuable to you. love, maureen

⭐Excellent book that has helped me to understand the among of the Inferno. I read this alongside Dantes Inferno in Modern English while also following the English translation. Made things so much easier to understand.

⭐Good little book but disappointed that there are a number of notes in the margins. It is second hand though!

⭐Helps to have this when reading the book else it’s tough to get your head around!

⭐It is useful, although there’s not much to say. It is a limited guide, good for 6th form, not so useful for university and should only be complementary.
