Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐I have decidedly mixed feelings on this book.On the one hand, there is a fair bit of content you don’t often find in other places. I’m talking about the more organizational elements of coaching that I think new coaches could find very useful. Stuff like being organized, dealing with parents, playing time issues, etc. The things that happen primarily away from the court. For me the book runs into big trouble when the focus shifts to the actual volleyball. I have a major issue with some of the stuff on warm-ups. There’s a 1-hour practice plan that only includes 25 minutes of the ball actually going over the net (and most of that is serve and pass). The terminology is a bit strange in places, and there are definitely some points where rules come in to question. The fact that the book came out in 2009 likely is a factor there.I think if I am to recommend this book it would be similar to how some professors use college textbooks. Just go over certain chapters – in this case the ones with a more off-court focus. Unless someone is entirely new to the sport, though, I struggle to see the value in the rest. And even then I see it as a quick primer rather than a proper resource. Too much stuff is either dubious or I’d flat out reject. Better to get that information from other sources.
⭐Intense and exhaustive book on Volleyball and all you’ll need for coaching…. even the common sense stuff is outlined. This is a great book for yourself if you have a kid playing vb and you want to learn more about it and how to best help your kid with their drills, or if you want to start coaching at the earliest level to prepare the kids for club or Y ball. I could see giving it to that parent on the sidelines with the attitude. It has a great section on dealing with “those” parents. Maybe they would get the hint LOL.
⭐We have a Granddaughter participating in volleyball, and my wife wanted a book to explain what is happening, the book really helped explain techniques. Thanks.
⭐I really enjoyed this book. I recently purchased this book before going on a coaching job interview and was surprised how much it helped (I got the job). What I like about the book: It covers a lot of subject material and brings up points that you might not necessarily consider. For example, you may need to set up a parent meeting or you may have kids with special needs. It helped me to organize my thoughts and approach to coach. What I dislike about the book: Other that saying “keep in mind that you may have to ____” it doesn’t give you real details on how to deal with certain elements of coaching. I guess what I am trying to say is that it is really vague.
⭐Better than what I was expecting xD not bad at all and I am learning some useful info however, a little too much info in parents and some common sense team aspects, I’m pretty sure most people would agree on that since it was literally half the book.
⭐Was a gift for a friiwho signed up to coach daughter’s team without any background. They took 2nd place in their division!!!
⭐This book has almost nothing specific or useful in it. Waste of paper. Better off with YouTube
⭐I’m hoping to coach y daughters volleyball team . This book should help.
⭐If you’re a 100% beginner to volleyball this is for you. But, if you’re looking for drills and strategies, not to much. Lots of info on dealing with parents, adolescent players and team management- but not exactly what I needed. I was looking more for practice drills, warm up drills and player set up on games.
