⭐I was thrilled when I found this; I’ve been wanting a decent kindle edition of Rimbaud’s poems for some time. I was so excited I bought it without looking at the preview, which was unfortunate, because something went horrible wrong with the e-book conversion. The book is supposed to be the original French with facing English translations. In the Kindle edition, however, the English and French are randomly mixed up; poems will have a few French stanzas, then a couple English; or, the English translation will abruptly end, with the remainder randomly inserted into the next poem. Extremely frustrating. Please fix this Amazon, or, better yet, create a decent Kindle edition of the Wyatt Mason translations.

⭐Really. I braved the last review, and threw away $7. English and French is all mixed up, so it’s useless even if you’re fluent.

⭐This is a great collection of Rimbaud’s poetry, the printing is good and it’s presented with a minimum of academic explanations and interpretations. The French side of the book presents the poems in their own right. The reason I only give 4 stars is that I don’t like Sorrell’s translations. Translating poetry is no easy task, and this is especially true for Rimbaud’s verse. Personally, considering that this is a bilingual edition, I would have preferred a more literal translation rather than an interpretative, literary translation. As we have the original next to the English version, we don’t need a translation to imagine what Rimbaud would have written had he written in English, we have the melody and the wordplays right there. What I need is aid in translating and understanding the original, not to read an interpretation of the poem. Sorrell’s interpretations sometimes depart far away from the original in what I assume is its desire to capture the ‘sense’ or the ‘feel’ of the poem rather than the words and the meaning of the original. This interpretative work is impressive in its own right, but would make more sense if we did not have the original verse right next to it.

⭐Livre très complet sur Rimbaud. La traduction en anglais est parfois un peu décevante mais elle est juste et c’est déjà un tour de force hallucinant que d’y retrouver l'”esprit” des poèmes.All went as well as it could go with this order. No delay, item arrived in condition as described and I have no reason for complaint.
