Description

This is the definitive collection of short stories by Saul Bellow. Abundant, precise, various, rich and exuberant, the stories display the stylistic and emotional brilliance which characterizes this master of prose. Some stories recount the events of a single day, some are contained in a wider frame; each story is a characteristic combination of observation and a celebration of humanity.

⭐Great idea and book.

⭐The editor of The New Yorker was recently asked: If you could bring the books of either Updike, Roth or Bellow to the proverbial desert island, which would it be. He answered Roth, adding, though, that Bellow’s “Herzog” was the best novel of the lot. My pick would be Bellow. He is the exuberant voice of post-World War II American fiction. This collection has some of his best fiction, including “The Old System”, “Him With His Foot in His Mouth”, and “Mosby’s Memoirs”.

⭐Don’t miss any of Bellow – all his writing is thought provoking, skillfully written; he can be funny, compassionate, about all sorts of subjects that he takes time to think about, where they fit, how he feels about them. He’s ‘up front and personal’, writing to you one-on-one. He talks to me – every book, every story. How can one person in just one lifetime have the intelligence and skill to write all he has is a mystery to me. Read him, everybody!

⭐Critics have often named Saul Bellow and Faulkner in the same laudatory, esteeming sentence. This juxtaposition is most correct in its comparison of the respective artistry of their short story craft. Bellow is a superior novelist and writer. This is a superb collection of short stories. The Preface is finely and charmingly written by Janis Bellow, which allows us a brief, intimate glimpse of Bellow the writer. This anthology includes: “The Bellarosa Connection,” “Looking for Mr. Green,” “Zetland,” “Mosby’s Memoirs,” and “Something to Remember Me By,” among others.Long live the urban Jewish intelligentsia. I also highly recommend Bellow’s novels, esp. Augie March, Humboldt’s Gift, and Ravelstein.

⭐Bellow won the Nobel Prize for Literature, need I say more? He possesses a visceral understanding of human behavior, which he delivers with the talent of a classic novelist and writer of short fiction. Truly, a NOBEL LAUREATE!

⭐The stories are interesting especially the one “Cousins” and there are some good anecdotes, but overall it was just OK.

⭐Excellent

⭐bellow saw the world through a unique perspective and lthough he was controversial he deserves to be read a wonderful author

⭐Saul Bellow, always a worthy read. Richness of language on full display. Enjoy
