Auburn Reed is determined to rebuild her shattered life and she has no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to become deeply attracted to the studio’s enigmatic artist, Owen Gentry.

For once, Auburn takes a chance and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is hiding a huge secret. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything Auburn loves most, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it—but can she do it?

With her moving and compelling prose, Hoover “will pull heartstrings in this second-chance love story” (Booklist).

⭐ Okay, I love Colleen Hoover. I love most of her books (let’s just leave Ugly Love out of this), and she is such an amazing author. So trust me when I tell you, this two-star rating is even shocking me.The part of the novel I adored was the inclusion of the paintings. They were absolutely beautiful, and made me want to reach out my own hand and touch them – I feel you Auburn! The beginning is incredibly promising. I was struck by it. I felt very connected to Auburn from the beginning to the end. I also felt very connected to Owen. But, somewhere along the way, and it is ever so subtle, because I didn’t even realize it until the end, the story takes some kind of a turn. The “love story” takes a backseat, and a lot of unnecessary drama takes the steering wheel. I kept wanting more time with Auburn and Owen. I wanted to get to know them better. Truth be told, in Hoover’s magical ways, with the little time you get with them, you still feel them. You feel them as separate characters, and you feel their connection. But, that dwindles throughout the book, and that left me feeling really empty. It made me feel like I lost something.I also have to agree with a few other fellow reviewers who said that the ending was not satisfying. It is not because there is a cliffhanger, or that it is terribly upsetting, it is just empty. After going through such a roller coaster, you are left with a moment that is anticlimactic. It is a slow and torturous buildup, and given that you do not have much time with these characters, I wanted the end to give me more than what it gave.Another thing, how beautiful is it that these confessions are told? I LOVED the idea, but again, it takes up the beginning of the book, maybe more like the first half, and then we lose them. Which is unfortunate. I think if you search in between the lines, you can see that the confessions have taken on various other forms. But I wanted more of what carried me through the first half of the book. So, here is my take. The story starts out strong, filled with feels, beautiful ideas and paintings. Then, the story transforms into something different, and unfortunately, does not end the way it started. So, I think it is an acquired taste. It’s a beautiful story, just not satisfying. So, I wouldn’t not-recommend (please bear with my double negative), but I would say read at your own risk.

⭐ I was so excited for the first 20% of the book — I thought, oooh, this is going to be a good one. I liked the heroine, who was courageous, principled, clever and had a sense of humor. I liked the chemistry between Auburn and Owen. And then it all fell apart. All the sudden they were ridiculously in love after only hours together — WAY too rushed — as if CH needed them to be in love already for the rest of the story to make sense but did not want to put in the work to write that into being. Then our strong female protag turns into a weak, witless, doormat, making bad decision after bad decision. I could not even finish it … tossed it down in disgust at 85%. One last little nitpick … it was a nice touch to include Owen’s art, but the actual artist signed the work and the names do not match. Why even include it then?

⭐ This is the second book I’ve read by Colleen Hoover and much like November 9, this is an emotionally charged book with twists at every corner. The main characters Auburn and Owen are two people you connect with from the start. They’re both dealing with traumatic losses from their pasts. For Auburn, it’s the death of her boyfriend, and for Owen, he’s struggling with the death of his mother and brother. From the start, their budding relationship is plagued by problems. There’s Owen’s relationship with his father, who is dealing with personal problems. Then there’s Trey, a jealous guy who stalks Auburn and Owen, trying everything he can to tear them apart. You can feel the raw emotions Auburn and Owen go through as they deal with being kept apart, and finding the strength to overcome the obstacles of their past. I loved seeing their growth throughout the novel as they finally gain the courage to stand up for themselves. As with the other Colleen Hoover book I read, Confess is filled with a few twists that were surprising, and added more intrigue to the novel.Aside from the story, another nice touch is the beautiful artwork featured in the book; I thought it was fitting since Owen was an art dealer. After reading this novel, I’ve officially become a member of the Colleen Hoover fan club and can’t wait to read more of her books.

⭐ It is a given for me to read anything that has Colleen Hoover’s name on it. Because I know that I am going to read it I don’t read the synopsis and I don’t read reviews. The less I know about the book the better my enjoyment of it always is. Confess was no exception and I went in blind. Hoover’s writing for me is like slipping on your cosiest pyjama’s, finding that spot on the couch that molds to you and that much needed glass of wine after a hard day at work all wrapped into one.OMG…Reading the prologue just about killed me. I could tell that I was in for an emotionally charged story and I was more than up for it. Then when I felt the intensity between Auburn and Owen when they first met I knew I was in for an amazing few hours. There was no way that anything was getting done in my house.”I could tell her how I know her. Make her realize why I have this overwhelming urge to protect her. But some secrets I’ll take to my grave.”I’ve said it before but Hoover has a way of capturing the emotions and chemistry between characters that sets her apart from other authors in this genre. In this book I was captivated by the simple act of hands touching. The moment I am talking about happens at Auburn’s apartment when Owen is leaving and they are on opposite sides of the door. It was absolutely and undeniably one of the most beautiful and intimate moments I have had the pleasure of reading. The way she takes such a basic act and turns it into something so breathtaking is beyond amazing.”There are people you meet that you get to know, and then there are people you meet that you already know.”I won’t re-tell the story or give anything away but I will say that I loved it. I loved the plot, I loved Auburn and I loved Owen. Colleen Hoover is one of the leading authors of this genre in my opinion and I was not disappointed. Her amazing storytelling filled with humour, chemistry and emotion was as evident in this book as in the rest of them.

⭐ Auburn is willing to do whatever it takes to move her life forward, even if it means taking on a second job to a strange art gallery with an enigmatic artist named Owen. When the two of them meet, they find an instant connection and begin to explore it. Despite this connection, the two of them are still hiding secrets, which they refer to as “confessions.” Will these confessions be the end of their fledgling relationship or could this end up turning into something epic? Y’all this book had me S C R E A M I N G. Watching Auburn’s character development was like how I felt when Purl started choosing me to hang out with. It was wonderful. I loved how Owen and Auburn were given similarities in common, rather than just “desperate girl, desperate boy,” that I sometimes see out of romances. I hated it at first but I ended up absolutely loving it.

⭐ “There are people you meet that you get to know, and then there are people you meet that you already know.”Gosh, I am struggling with putting together words for this book, and I’m having a difficult time talking about it and not giving anything away! Colleen Hoover never fails to amaze me with her stories, the characters’ connection, everything. If you’ve read CoHo, then you know. This book did not let me down. Colleen knows how to hurt your heart, but also gives you hope that things will be okay. This was such a unique story, and I loved how she tied in the confessions with the art gallery. I absolutely loved it. I had so many questions, and I made so many guesses throughout this book – all my guesses were wrong, but all my questions were answered. There were some shocking moments, and also a little bit of suspense! The two main characters, Auburn Reed and Owen Gentry, meet by chance at Owen’s art gallery in Texas. They’re both keeping secrets. I loved how Colleen had these characters meet, how their story unfolded and how some of the secrets came to light. I loved all of their interactions together, and everything! My heart broke for both of these characters, and the hard times they’ve had to endure. If you’re going to read this book, I highly suggest reading the paperback, because the art talked about in the book, is provided in the book, and I feel like it made the reading experience more real.

⭐ ‘Confess’ has a brilliant concept surrounding the artist in the story, and the artwork included in the book is breathtaking. I would like to own some of it myself. As to the actual reading, here it goes…The first chapters were stellar, and Hoover did a great job balancing happiness with a bite of pain. Perhaps I set my expectations too high, based on the beginning, but for me, it quickly descended into more of an angsty teen love story rather than one of adults connecting.Cut to the final chapter and we find a terrific ending. I finally made a connection with the characters at that very last moment. Unfortunately, the struggle to get there had already set the tone.Overall, it’s a sweet tale that explores how a love that could transcend death could also string together lives that wouldn’t have intersected otherwise. The writing is well done and I wanted to adore this book, but the YA romance ‘feel’ dampened my enjoyment.Though it’s not advertised as such, I would recommend this to readers who enjoy the young adult genre.

⭐ I had no expectation when I first started reading this book, but I admit, it was selected because of the simple yet beautiful art on the cover which captured my attention. Then I noticed its title, “Confess”, and my interest was piqued.I got sucked into it within the first few pages as it begins with the love story of Auburn and Adam, teenagers who fell in love and then their love is torn apart due to a fated tragedy. Life can be cruel. :-(Fast forward five years, Auburn moves to Texas and tries to rebuild her life and has specific goals that must be accomplished. She walks into Owen Gentry’s art studio when she sees a “help wanted” sign and immediately their connection is undeniable and powerful. They’ve both been dealt a rough hand in life and Auburn is forced to keep her distance involuntarily due to secrets in Owen’s past. Owen understands this, but the sacrifice is killing him because he knows that he deserves her. Owen says it best, “It’s amazing how much distance one truth can create between two people.”A pleasant surprise in this book is the artwork! I absolutely loved that Colleen Harper included these beautiful art pieces into the book. I would totally buy a piece from Owen if he had an art studio in my neighborhood (I wish!). I also loved that Owen used the confessions that he received as inspiration for his art and the fact that the author tells you in the beginning that these are actually true confessions that were submitted anonymously.Throughout the book, I totally fell for Owen’s words:”No one sees you like I do.””No one understands you the way I do.””No one makes your heart beat like I do.”I had so many feels! There are times when your heart literally aches for someone but circumstances out of your control can pull you both apart.I hated how Auburn was so compliant to Lydia and Trey even though they used someone so special to her as leverage against her, but as the story progresses, you understand why she tends to tread carefully in those situations.Overall, I love it and recommend to any romance readers! Colleen Hoover’s books are a first for me and I can’t wait to read another! I’m even more excited about this book since I discovered that there is a TV series based on the book. Now I have to add that show to my next Saturday night TV binge! :-)Check out my review: loveatfirstreadcom.wordpress.com

⭐ Once again blown away by this authors words with a plot twist that literally stopped my heart. A heart that was literally hanging by a thread for most of this book.Within the first chapter I was sobbing my heart out, reaching for the tissues. Just when I thought life had move one and my emotions were once again in check they take a plummet south!! My head was spinning with this tale of a second chance of love, finding ‘the one’ I thought was never going to happen. This author makes you wait, takes you on the most amazing ride with characters you love and ones you just want to punch! And just when you think all the wrongs have been righted Colleen hits you with an amazing twist of fate!

⭐ Ooh I have waited a while before I actually posted my review. I am coming to terms with my feeling with this book. I liked it, but it was not one of my favorites, lets be honest here, CoHo is amazing, AMAZING but I feel this book fell short of my expectations.I feel as if it was a rush of emotions all at once (in the beginning) and then the middle was very platonic, and then BAM the end….But I do LOVE CoHo, and the book did have great parts, and being a mother, I tried not to judgeBut whyyyyyy? … Still not judging, it just made me mad… and slightly annoyed.
