Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author of Hopeless joins forces with the New York Times bestselling author of Mud Vein. Together, they have created a gripping, romantic tale unlike any other. “How odd to be made of flesh, balanced on bone, and filled with a soul you’ve never met.” Charlize Wynwood and Silas Nash have been best friends since they could walk. They’ve been in love since the age of fourteen. But as of this morning…they are complete strangers. Their first kiss, their first fight, the moment they fell in love…every memory has vanished. “I don’t care what our real first kiss was,” he says. “That’s the one I want to remember.” Charlize and Silas must work together to uncover the truth about what happened to them and why. But the more they learn about the couple they used to be…the more they question why they were ever together to begin with. “I want to remember what it feels like to love someone like that. And not just anyone. I want to know what it feels like to love Charlie.”

⭐ Why I chose this book:A little well-known fact about me: I LOVE Colleen Hoover. Everything she is ever a part of is always, without a doubt, Ah-mazing. So I will forever buy everything she ever comes out with, and Never Never was not going to be the exception. My Bookish Thoughts:I bought this book early Tuesday morning, but for some reason, didn’t get around to reading it until a week later, after everyone and their dog was flipping their shiz over the ending.I didn’t understand how it could have been that big of a deal, where it surprised practically 90% of the population who read that book… but I was wrong. So very very wrong. It was just as crazy as everyone was saying, and I seriously don’t believe Hoover and Fisher knew what they were thinking leaving their readership in such a state of chaos with that cliffhanger… Well, maybe they did know what they’re doing, because it made me love them all the more. This was an utterly refreshing read. I hardly know what to really categorize it as. Was it paranormal? Was it contemporary? I don’t even know, because they don’t explain it! Half the time, I had absolutely now clue what was going on, but the only thing I did know was that I loved it in all it’s chaotic and unknown glory.Final Thoughts:This is the hardest review to write because I just want to talk about the amazing spoilers, but obviously that would be mean, so I will leave you guys with the fact that you must read this book. It’s very short and will take you a couple hours, max, to read, and it is so absolutely worth it!I gave this book 5 stars on my Goodreads.Check out more of my reviews at ofspectaclesandbooks.com

⭐ I love both Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher so there was no doubt I was going to read these books. However, I was really unsure how their two styles could possibly mesh together. Colleen, while angsty, is definitely the light/fluffy side of the duo, while Tarryn is definitely the darker side. Really though I shouldn’t have been worried or surprised. If anyone could pull this off it would be them and they definitely did just that. This book had me captivated from beginning to end. I couldn’t put it down and was so glad that I waited to read these books until all of them were out. If I had to wait to find out what happened to Charlie and how her and Silas were going to get out of the mess they were in,I would have gone crazy. I loved every aspect of this book.

⭐ As usual I went in blind. Not knowing what to expect. It made the mystery and intrigue of the plot that much more powerful. So if you’re anything like me stop here and go dive in! It’s one of the most worthwhile reads I’ve read in a while. Each moment was a surprise and every word had me craving more. The two POVs lets us get to know Charlie and Silas so well. It was like as I read their love story somewhere along the way I took that leap as well and had trouble catching my breath each heart stopping moment. My favorite part was how real the emotion felt. They expressed it with such vivid detail the characters and their passion and struggle drew me in. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

⭐ This book was rather surprising because it wasn’t what I expected at all from the author, even reading the blurb my thoughts never ran across a plot like this; I must say I am ashamed of myself for not seeing it coming….So we can get it out the way now… I dislike the heroine. There I said it,now moving on.Silas, something about him intrigues me greatly and I like it. As usual Colleen Hoover has put her magic to work and made his POV so sweet and enjoyable to read, as she does with all her other book heroes. That is one of the reasons I keep going back for more! Now the plot. I loved the fast pace thrill of the writing, you never knew what to expect. When you think the plot is going to go one way a new piece of the puzzle is revealed and BAM! the story heads in a different direction.I don’t want to give anything away but it did seem as though there is a supernatural twist to things and I am seriously excited for March to see how the story unfolds because I think the suspense might just kill me!!

⭐ Now, I understand that this is a novella and this story moved a lot slower than I thought it would. In my opinion, nothing exciting happened that kept me interested other than the fact that I wanted to know why all their memories were lost. The last 15 minutes of reading brought some questions into the plot that will have me reading the next book, but I feel as though this one could’ve been much shorter and combined with the next book instead of being separate novellas. This is my First Colleen Hoover read and I had very high expectations from the other reviews on her works and others recommendation of her and I hate to say I was disappointed with these characters. I know that they do not know who they are, but I thought that the personality that they did show was a little lacking. Although I love a good cliff hanger, we did not get ANY answers in this book as to why they might be experiencing this phenomena. I love trying to take clues from books and figure out the end for my self and then be completely shocked when there’s a twist at the end and I realized I had it all wrong, but there was nothing in this story that gave me the faintest Idea as to what may have happened which, if these authors werent so highly recommended, would usually make me give up on a story. I have downloaded and will be reading the second book and hopefully be more drawn into the plot and caring about these characters a bit more. I gave this rating a 3 star because I haven’t read anything quite like this before, so it is very original, but if it were not for the originality, I would probably have given only 2 stars.

⭐ “I don’t want anyone to think I’m going crazy.” “You’re not going crazy,” I say. “Not if it’s happening to both of us.”Well, this book/installment/whatever managed to both drive me crazy aaaand put me to sleep (a few times). I was originally going to rate this 2 stars, just based on lackluster reading experience alone. But I felt I should add a star to account for the fact that it is edited well and there are no typos (just two awkward sentences).I think the biggest problem is that I wasn’t really sure what was going on for most of the story. Is this sci-fi or paranormal romance? Is this about time travel or voodoo? Or is this a dark twisted version of the movie Groundhog Day? This book asked a lot of questions, and gave some answers, but 90% of the time they weren’t the answers to the questions that were asked.I’ve also had to come to the realization that I love the male characters Colleen Hoover creates and the male POVs she writes in her projects, but the stories themselves are just meh. I did love Silas’s POV in Never Never, but everything else was…meh. The female protagonist? Meh.The supporting cast of characters? Meh.The setting? Meh. (I could tell some effort went into describing Bourbon Street, but as a whole New Orleans came across as meh, which should be impossible).I had decided that even though I wasn’t going to DNF the book, I wasn’t going to continue with the serial either. But then the frenzy of the last few pages really pulled me back in, and gave me some hope for the next installment. If it falls in the same price range as this one, then I will get it. I am a little worried, however, that I might lose interest by the time the Part II pre-orders are available in mid-February. No matter what happens, at least I was introduced to Tarryn Fisher’s work, and am looking forward to read some of her books.

⭐ I don’t want to sound creepy but I don’t want to spoil any of you so I try to be explanatiory vague with this review.Silas and Charlie both “wake” up at the same time with no recollection of their memories about the people in their life at all. They don’t know anyone, not even each other. The whole book plays in about two days time while they are trying to figure it out what happened with them without any actual help. They don’t dare to tell about themselves to anyone so they keep pretend. “You’re a rich kid who’s a dick to your housekeeper. I’m a mean teenager with absolutely no personality who takes selfies to make herself feel important.”Never Never is a total mindf*ck. You don’t know what is happening, not even when it is happening. The whole book is actually one big mystery. I mean, think about it: you lose your memory of everyone you know, even yourself. You don’t know who you are, you don’t know who are your parents, family, friends, nobody, yet you have to act like you do, if you don’t want them to think you went crazy or are insane. “None of this makes sense. How can we remember celebrities? People we’ve never met? How do I know that Kanye West married a Kardashian? How do I know that Robin Williams died?”Charlie and Silas have been lovers for four years. Now they don’t even remember the other. They forgot all their happy moments, all the big events and heartbreaks. This could actually be a good restart for them, if only they weren’t strangers. “…she’s the girl I supposedly make love to. The girl I’ve apparently made love to for a while. The girl I apparently still love. I just wish I could remember…”Never Never is told in both Charlie and Silas’ point of view, so it’s easier to get to know both of them and connect to them. Connecting with them is really easy, they are both very likable characters.Charlie is the storm that can only be tamed by Silas’ calm. The romance between them is kind of underlying but you can still feel it in bits and pieces. They have to play lovers in front of their friends but you can’t really fake emotions you are supposedly feeling without actually feeling them deep down. From the two of them, I think Silas is the one, who wants to remember how they were before losing their memories and Charlie is the one who wants to know more why and how it happened. “She loved you. I’m not even sure if I like you yet.I don’t know myself very well, but I must have been extremely competitive. Because I just took that as a challenge.Took what as a challenge? You think you can make me like you again? No. I’m gonna make you fall in love with me again.”What I mostly miss in mystery books are the humour but here I had it, even if it was in small doses and mostly came from Silas, but it made me laugh here and there. The jokes were sometimes cheesy but they added to their personality perfectly. “You’re talking about us like we’re body invaders. You have no idea how many times a day I think about invading your body.”This book is a very captivating read that gripped me from the very first page. It kept me guessing all along and there are so many questions left unanswered that I’ve never read in a book before. The ending is a huge cliffhanger that will make you suffer for a long time after finishing it. “Charlie is a devastation left in the wake of a tornado.”Never Never is a fast paced, mysterious story, that will keep you looking for clues everywhere. The possibilities for the outcome are endless. You won’t put this book down until you are finished with it, but it won’t left you alone. If you like all the things above, then Never Never is the book for you. This was the first I’ve read from both Colleen and Tarryn but definitely not the last. They easily got on the list of authors I want to read everything from.

⭐ I haven’t read many of Colleen Hoover’s books (only Maybe Someday) but I have read every single one of Tarryn Fisher’s books and loved them. Both authors have a unique writing style, with Hoover’s being softer and Tarryn’s being quite intense and often dark. I was excited to read Never Never given I had enjoyed both author’s previous works and was interested to see what they could accomplish together. I must say I am saddened that I did not enjoy this story as much as a lot of others did.I really enjoyed the concept behind the plot. Charlie and Silas wake up with no memory of who they are. They can’t remember their friends, families, or each other. They can, however, remember other facts like President’s names and characters from movies. The story revolves around Charlie and Silas trying to figure out what exactly happened to them to make them forget everyone they love.Charlie is reminiscent of Fisher’s other heroines. It seems she has built a wall around herself, making her cold and aloof. There are few moments where any vulnerability shines through. Occasionally, she allows us a glimpse into what she’s feeling, but generally these reactions are saved for Silas. Silas seems to be pretty perfect; good-looking, smart, high school quarterback, and madly in love with Charlie. As the story progresses and they find out more and more, it is obvious that both Charlie and Silas aren’t quite what they seem.I think my biggest issues were the pacing and the romance in this story. I didn’t feel compelled to continue reading when I put it down. Certain parts really dragged on for me. I was intrigued when secrets were uncovered but it felt like it took forever for each small piece of information to be given, with little in between to make up for it. I also didn’t really feel the spark between Charlie and Silas. I felt more like I was supposed to root for them rather than actually wanting to root for them. I am all for flawed characters and flawed relationships but without much insight into what made their relationship special, it was hard to convince me.The last 1/4th of the book intrigued me and I am definitely going to continue reading, I may wait for the entire serial to come out. A lot of people are calling the ending of Part 1 a “cliff-hanger” but it was more of a “to-be-continued” in my opinion. I will be interested to see what comes next, as I would like to know what made Charlie and Silas lose their memory. I also find the setting, New Orleans, to be captivating and I feel that it will add a deeper level of mystery to the story.Note: I struggled with my rating for this book. I would say overall it’s a 2.5-3 star book. I am rounding up to 3 stars since the writing was good and the end left me convinced to keep reading.

⭐ You’re going to hate me.I didn’t love Never Never. What is my life right now?You have to understand that this is a novel written by two of my Top 3 authors. I am a huge Hoover fan, as are most of us I think, but I also love Tarryn Fisher and her incredibly unique, dark writing style. I’ve read everything she’s written and I’m a huge fan of her work. When I first heard of this collaboration, my mind almost exploded with the sheer promise and excitement of the project. The sexy, irresistible and heart wrenching love stories of CoHo combined with Fisher’s dark and mysterious writing style? Check, please!Unfortunately for me, Never Never did not deliver as I was expecting it to.I really think CoHo and Tarryn are selling themselves short with this one. I feel like they got so excited about this (amazing) collaboration that they rushed the whole thing. It was underdeveloped for me, and it felt more like a short story, the first few chapters in a novel. I read Never Never in one sitting which is strange in itself as I’m a very slow reader.“She’s lost in thought. I’m lost in her.”Let’s go into a few more details about this story. There is no doubt – Never Never is a unique story, a cool premise and keeps you on the edge of your seat. However, it could be done even better. When you have two authors like the ones that signed their names to this book, you really set your hopes up high. I wanted … more. I was hoping for the pure amazingness that is Maybe Someday mixed with the creepy feel of Mud Vein. Instead, I got a generic story that, while it had great characters and an interesting premise, felt underdeveloped and like the first draft of an idea.I loved the main characters in this book. Silas was interesting, sexy and irresistible, while Charlie was stubborn but caring, and they made a beautiful couple. I loved their interaction, loved the mystery of the story, loved the side characters. However, his book had all of the ingredients for an amazing read, including a huge twist along with a View Spoiler ».“How odd to be made of flesh, balanced on bone, and filled with a soul you’ve never met.”I feel absolutely awful writing a review like this, to be honest. You have to understand I’m such a big fan of both authors – I stalk their Facebook pages and wait (in)patiently for their new releases. That being said, the two of them together are a dream team. They novel flowed beautifully and it felt like they just got each other. But here’s hoping they take a little more time with the next novel in the series. I think they’ve started a really cool project that might get better and better with each new book. My fingers are crossed in hopes of that happening!

⭐ MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS – I don’t know why I just put that disclaimer out there because this book is a fast-paced rollercoaster ride…and I’m not sure I know anything at all!! Like some Colleen Hoover books, there is no sex in this one, but many signs point to the fact that Charlie & Silas have had it in the past & I am crossing my fingers that they have it in book #2! 🙂 Hang with this book because at first it is a battle to figure out what the heck is going on. But neither Charlie nor Silas know what is happening to them since they know certain things, like lyrics to songs & how to operate their car’s GPS, but they don’t know the face or name of their siblings, anything about the love affair they’ve had on & off for years, anything about themselves really at all. When they follow the leads to see if they can figure out why their memories have been wiped clean they both find out sides of their personalities they don’t appreciate. For starters they were estranged because of some family drama & sadly it appears that Charlie & Silas weren’t faithful to each other. I loved Charlie’s bold personality but she gets the impression from those around her that she was really a mean b**ch. Silas has an older video on his phone, taken when he snuck into Charlie’s window one night, and even though the video isn’t clear it is obvious there is some passionate kissing & touching involved. And then the big mystery – Silas says, “Never never, Charlie.” All of these mysteries are left open – we don’t know why Charlie & Silas had such a serious connection to each other. Charlie is definitely attracted to Silas right now even though she doesn’t feel like she was worthy of his love in the past. She finds a scrapbook full of beautiful love letters & even some hot passionate love letters that she kept from Silas. Their friendship falls apart when they share a mind-blowing “first” kiss outside the cathedral in Jackson Square. “We were an us, Charlie. And holy s*** I can see why!” Charlie is so mixed up inside after that hot kiss that she bolts leaving Silas afraid Charlie will lose her memory again & be all alone. Many many clues and breadcrumbs but no real answers. Can’t wait for book #2!!
