⭐cryp·tog·ra·phy: the art of writing or solving codes.First, the book fails miserably to deliver on its title. I expected to find information on “writing or solving codes” instead I got a woefully out of date treatise on how to manage IT data security. I got several lectures on passcode and key length. Sheesh. I should have read the reviews more carefully and paid better attention to the dates.I expected better from Amazon.

⭐this data is so far out of an use to anyone now a day is more a history of crypto book.

⭐Great for beginners but it is very noticeably dated. This book is now 14 years old. That is a life time in the tech world. I mean, it discusses floppy disk usage unironically! An updated 2nd edition is badly needed. But despite all this, still a fantastic book with loads of information. And super easy to read!

⭐Great book but I would like to say that this particular book is about cryptography as it applies to network security almost exclusively.

⭐I am a professional programmer, but I have not dealt much with cryptography in the past.Cryptography for Dummies very much helped me get the big pieces of the puzzle clarified. Symmetrical vrs. Asymmetrical vrs. One-way Ciphers, as well as their current and historical implementations were put into place.I’ve gone back to the ‘for Dummies’ on several occasions (guitar, calculus, tarot, whatever) and have never been disappointed. Don’t expect to become a thoroughly geeky expert on Cryptography by reading this book, but you will at least know your way around.

⭐Pretty dry, but lots of detail for someone interested in the nitty gritty.

⭐I am a third year forensic computng student who was new to cryptography. This has taught me an awful lot, and helpd get me a 1st in the module. It is incredibly easy to read and starts off assuming you know nothing. The light sense of humour and backgorund dtories it supplies, helps keep you entertained!It is around 10 years old now, however Cryptography has not really moved on since then (AES was made in 1999 and we still use that) so this should be very good to anyone wanting to learn cryptography for a job interview, univeristy or college.

⭐This book is a thorough tutorial of the various aspects of cryptography presented well for the non-technical reader. My background is CISMP, Telecommunications and Electrical Engineering as well as some experience in IT security so I didn’t have any problem delving in it and absorbing loads of information, principles and advice. It is certainly out of date (published in 2004), however it is very useful in understanding with simple terms a subject as extent and complex as cryptography in IT systems. I read it as a background primer for my CISSP preparation and I feel that my understanding in cryptography has improved significantly.On the cons side, some sporadic typos and syntax errors and the most important: not a recent edition (2015) with updated info on all technology, products and websites, why Mrs Cobb? That’s how my 4.5 stars score are given.

⭐If you buy anything on e-bay, use a credit card, worry whether your wi-fi enabled online banking on your laptop is secure or whether your employees are leaking vital secrets over their mobile phone then you would do well to understand how modern encryption processes work and are used, and this book does well in explaining the subject. Though a bit too chatty at times, the complex subject is broken down into easily assimilated pieces and the author does an excellent job of making the rest of us dummies understand it.
