Description

Highlights from Sky & Telescope’s Deep-Sky Wonders column display the independence of thought and devotion to craft that made writer “Scotty” Houston a favorite among readers for almost 50 years. Sky & Telescope magazine contributing editor Stephen James O’Meara has selected and arranged the best of Scotty’s work into a year-round guide to the star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies that lure skygazers into their backyards on clear, dark nights. Scotty intersperses his engaging commentary with expert advice on becoming a more capable observer.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Though there are a lot of newer books available, it always help to rely on some trendsetter who blazed the way for today’s better books. A timeless classic deserving a space in anybody’s bookself.

⭐Very good distillation of the over 40 years of columns of the late great Walter Scott Houston. In the era when amateurs were still struggling to take murky, washout, poorly focused, and poorly guided astrophotographers, Houston challenged you with a list of celestial wonders beyond the Messier Objects. Mr. O’meara did an excellent job of giving you a feel of Houston’s writing I still miss over 20 years since his passing.

⭐As a reader of Sky & Telescope for over30 years and reading Scotty’s works all weaved together I am building myself a 5 inch F/5.5 refactor. Outstanding book and a must for anyone who loves astronomy.

⭐Great book. I enjoy it very much and recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about astronomy.

⭐( From Thailand ) Good Service ,Fast Shipping ,Very Very Good ,A + + + + +

⭐Great book for the serious deep space observer.

⭐Outstanding book!

⭐I became familiar with Walter Scott Houston’s column as a young teenager, and followed it until his death. This as a great compilation of many of his classic and timeless columns, carefully edited by Steve O’Meara. Not a “guidebook” in the strictest sense, but a “suggestion book.” It is one of my favorites. Highly recommended.
