⭐A little bit old. Take this photo just make sure I wouldn’t be charged for the damage when I return this.
⭐This book isn’t bad, but the book problems are sometimes extremely complicated without much direction as to how to do them. If your teacher doesn’t teach you how to do everything this book may not be overly useful.
⭐I have bought this book for a class. It has helped broadened by knowledge in differential equations.
⭐For some unknowable, god-forsaken reason the authors decided to omit the last 3 chapters and appendix B from the hard copy of the text. They’re only available via piracy or paying an extra $100 for digital access. I prefer to have real books as a reference than some digital copy that will expire or I’ll forget the link/password to, so I opted for this. Then I find out 3/4 of the way through the class that it doesn’t include the last 4 weeks of course material? Shameful.Almost all of these textbook publishers and writers are the same: out to exploit as much cash as they can from students by selling information that’s available for free online. FYI most of them bribe schools to utilize their texts and online keys. I really hope open source (free online) textbooks start to take over and put these horribly exploitative businesses in the dirt for good.The text itself is decent. No textbook will ever be better than live examples though. So it should have been aimed at being a quick-reference for formulas, equations, etc. I wish it had more of that kind of stuff as end-of-chapter summary information but having to scan through the chapters for formulas is fun too I guess.
⭐I am taking a differential equations course where I use this book for homework problems. My professor has exclaimed his disappointment on numerous occasions with the text, and is adamant that previous editions were better structured and had fewer errors. I cannot vouch for this, but I do know that this edition only gives answers to even problems in the back of the book, while previous editions gave answers to all problems. I don’t know why they would make the decision to take those answers out; having a point of reference is crucial.I am a mathematics major, and I am actually quite fond of differential equations, but I’m just not into this book. If I have trouble in diff eq, I usually look to online resources, because trying to rely on the book for a deeper understanding just wasn’t effective the numerous times I tried it, and I am pretty comfortable reading mathematics at this level. The mechanics and reasoning behind many processes is poorly explained and just generally unclear. There is very little attempt to give readers an intuitive, generalised understanding of the material, and rigour seems similarly lacking. It’s a very algorithmic approach that fails to establish the basics in favour of establishing how to solve problems… and that’s just missing the point of diff eq.
⭐Great book. Great price
⭐The examples given in the book leave much explanation to be desired. Many steps are usually missing in order to provide a more complete answer. A few of the answers in the back are confusing. Not an ideal textbook.
⭐Appendix problems on linear algebra requisite for solving systems of differential equations does not have solutions.
⭐This text arrived in almost unused condition as advertised. I am using it as textbook for a course in Differential Equations. Not sure why it is the required text since the professor does not really use it, and it so far has not proven particularly helpful. It may be a good resource going forward.
