Description

An eye-opening look at the rapes, genocides, and murders that are recounted with relish and approval in the so-called Good Book, and a nice reminder of how modern secular morality, based on human rights and human flourishing, is so much father advanced than the traditional morality of religion.-Steven Pinker, Johnstone Family Professor, Harvard University, and the author of The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined. If you ask Christians to describe the God they believe in, they’ll tell you he’s kind, merciful, and perfect. In this book, Steve Wells reveals the God of the Bible for what he really is: a bloodthirsty killer. In this meticulously documented book, we’re taken through a series of slaughters that will make you rethink everything you learned in Sunday School. If you still worship God by the end of it, you have some explaining to do.-Hemant Mehta, editor of FriendlyAtheist.com and author of The Young Atheist’s Survival GuideDrunk With Blood includes a separate account for each of God’s 158 killings. These stories fill the pages of the Bible, yet they are seldom read in church and are ignored by most Bible believers, which is a shame because God is so proud of his killings:”I kill … I wound … I will make mine arrows drunk with blood and my sword shall devour flesh.” Deuteronomy 32:39-42 You’ve probably hear of a few of God’s killings. Noah’s Flood,Sodom and Gomorrah, David and Goliath, maybe. But there are over 150 others that are unknown to pretty much everyone, believer and nonbeliever alike. Did you know, for example, that God: *Forced friends and family to kill each other for dancing naked around Aaron’s golden calf? *Burned Aaron’s sons to death for offering him strange fire? *Burned complainers to death, forced the survivors to eat quail until it literally came out their noses, sent “fiery serpents” to bite people for complaining about the lack of food and water, and killed 14,700 for complaining about his killings? *Buried alive those that opposed Moses (along with their families)? *Burned 250 men to death for burning incense? *Rewarded Phinehas for throwing a spear though the bellies of an inter-tribal couple while they were having sex? *Ordered, assisted in, or approved of dozens of complete genocides? *Accepted human sacrifice in the cases of Jephthah’s daughter and Saul’s seven sons? *Helped Samson murder thirty men for their clothes, slaughter 1000 with the jawbone of an ass, and kill 3000 civilians in a a suicide terrorist attack? *Smote the Philistines of several cities with hemorrhoids in their secret parts? *Killed a man for trying to keep the ark of the covenant from falling and 50,070 for looking into the ark? *Approved when David bought his first wife with 200 Philistine foreskins? *Killed King Saul for not killing every Amalekite as he told him to do? *Slowly killed a baby to punish King David for committing adultery? *Killed 70,000 because David had a census that he (or Satan) told him to do? *Sent a lion to kill a prophet for believing another prophet’s lie, another lion to kill a man for not smiting a prophet, and some more lions to kill people that didn’t fear him enough? *Killed 450 religious leaders who lost a prayer contest with Elijah and burned 102 men to death for asking Elijah to come down from his hill? *Sent two bears to rip apart 42 boys for making fun of Elisha’s bald head? *Killed 27,000 Syrians by having a wall fall on them, sent an angel to kill 185,000 sleeping soldiers, interfered in human battles to kill a half million Israelite and a million Ethiopian soldiers? *Killed King Ahab for not killing a captured king, and then sent King Jehu on a series of mass murders to kill all of Ahab’s family and friends who had ever “pissed against a wall?” *Killed Job’s ten children in a bet with Satan? All of these killings, and more, are found in the Bible, and their stories are told in the in the 2nd Edition

⭐You would be surprised at how many “Christians” have NO CLUE as to how many people “God” killed in the Bible; compared to how many people the Devil killed. It comes to “about 60” (for the Devil) compared to God’s “about 3.4 billion!” I’ll bet you never heard those numbers from the pulpit? I was told by a JW I often question, “No one knows those numbers.” What? But WHY? “Those numbers” are all in the Bible. ADD THEM UP! Approximate even, if you must. But 60 to 3 .4 BILLION? WHO is the REAL “killer” here? And my JW friend then replied, “But he always warned the people first.” OHHHHH, so now I get it. If I just “warn” someone, its OK to take their life? As long as I tell them 1st, “you messed up, and now you gotta die,” that makes it alright? That sounds awful “Christian-like” to me! i.e. “The Christian-way.” And my JW friend never did answer my question, “How many people did God kill in the Bible, compared to how many Satan killed in the Bible?” He stated “no one knows that.” (Because no Bible-toter ever bothered to add them up) ANSWER: 3.4 BILLION, to 60 respectively. How can anyone with a FUNCTIONING BRAIN, believe “god” is in any way, shape, or form, “better” than the Devil? I mean, Satan lets one live with his “God-given-impulses,” and God, only cares about limiting those very same gifts, or impulses, to serve his own Murderous-needs!” The Devil has NO “limits.” as to what we can, or cannot, do. “Satan” seems to give us what we desire, (a god-gift) and God only wants to take-away what She’s already given. They have a term for “that-kind” of “Being.” It is referred to as an “Indian-giver.” It isn’t the Indians that take their gifts back, it is GOD Herself! Because most men know, women only take, just like a God! They only “earn-it” when there is no other choice. It isn’t “God gives and God takes away. It is Satan gives, and God takes away.” Or man gives, and God takes away? Because women don’t give, they GET. Even if it is something SHE already gave you, SHE will take it back, in the end. Because THAT….is how a woman’s brain works. aka, “Do as little as possible and obtain all you can, before moving to the next sucker.” But make sure to get it all first, if you possibly can! And then talk bad about him too, after he leaves. Don’t even allow him his dignity. WOMEN, have a lot more “in common” with a God, than a man does. One thing I learned from my ex, “If you want to save money, SPEND SOMEONE ELSE’S!” (your spouse’s!!)

⭐This book is awesome. It took me maybe 2 days to read it.Full of laugh-out-loud humor.I was tempted to write Steve and tell him that this book needs to be republished with probably the most famous atheist name, Richard Dawkins, added as a co-author so that it gets on the best sellers list. I really think this should have sold 10s of millions of copies! After all, it is a VERY important book to read. It strictly uses “God’s Word” (all scripture is from the King James version). It goes through 1 by 1 re-telling each of God’s killings, starting with the first (the flood). So notice it does not include Cain killing Abel because God did not directly command or carry out himself the murder of Abel. It is worth noting that Cain’s motive for murdering his brother was because God didn’t like Cain’s organic non-living and non-breathing and non-capable-of-feeling-pain sacrifice of vegetables. However, God was just ecstatic and filled with joy over Abel’s sacrifice of freshly butchered lambs (Steve pointed this out either in the Skeptics Annotated Bible or his blog, Dwindling In Unbelief). This book should be passed out in church parking lots across the country. Steve makes the point that it is very easy for Christians to believe in the bible because they don’t know what is in it.My favorite killing probably involved Samson where he sleeps with a prostitute, wakes up at midnight, uses his superhuman strength to rip off the Philistine gate at the front of the city, he then carries the gate on top of his head up to a hill and leaves it there for no reason, then reveals his source of strength to the girl who cuts his hair off. The Phillistines capture him and throw a party with 3000 people. Samson asks God in a prayer if he can just get his strength back to get revenge on the Phillistines. God grants the prayer and Samson rips the pillars apart and the building collapses. All 3000 Phillistines die + Samson. Steve Wells refers to this as “Samson’s Suicide Terrorist Attack.” He adds jokingly, “there are unconfirmed reports that Samson screamed Allu Akhbar (God is Great) before carrying out his suicide terrorist attack.”I even gave the book to my cousin who is not much of a reader. He also couldn’t put it down, loved it, and thought it was hysterical.

⭐When reading this work it’s important to realise that it’s about God’s killings in the bible. It does not include all the other nasty things God is recording as having done and the bad behaviour of many of his followers. The plain truth is, the bible doesn’t seem able to get anything right. Over and over again it has been proved to be historically inaccurate with a propensity for preferring myth and legend to truth. If the tales reviewed in this work had appeared any where else other than in the bible they would have been assigned to the realm of folk lore concocted by imaginative story tellers.Fortunately, I am familiar with both the bible and the apocrypha, which means that I already knew the legends reviewed in this work. What I really enjoyed about Steve Wells’ book is the humour. It’s such an hilarious read. When we look back over the past two thousand years and reflect on all the pain and suffering religion and religious strife has brought upon the world and countless numbers of innocent people in it, we can only feel deep distress at the complete absence any any sense of humour when it comes to the assessment of so called ‘sacred writings’. That’s to say, the lack of it on the part of so called ‘scholars’. There’s plenty of evidence to show that ‘common people’, through the ages, have seen the funny side of it all.Having known quite a number of clergy in my time I’m well aware that more of them than may be realised have serious doubts about the bible, which is why they are very selective when teaching from it. However, as this delightful work reveals throughout, this is not how the bible sees it. Whilst people may have to ‘toe the line’ God can do just as he likes, torturing and killing people according to his whimsical will. In fact, he is exposed here as vengeful, petty-minded, sub-human tyrant. This work makes us think about pigs.* Why? Because pigs, which are condemned in the bible as unclean animals because they don’t chew the cud, are actually cleaner and better behaved than the god who is supposed to have dictated the first five books of the Old Testament to Moses, which is a miracle in itself because, if true, it means that Moses describes his own death. Pigs build nests for their babies to be born in, they never foul their living quarters, always defecate well away from where they are feeding, are extra-careful about their body hygiene and they simply don’t engage in the outrageous cruelty along the lines exposed in this very readable work. When we read this book I’ve little doubt that quite a number of us will wish we had thought of researching and writing something similar. Best of all, as any honest historian will tell you, hardly any of it is true, which makes it all quite hilarious, if it wasn’t so sad that so many people still believe in it all. Anyway, it’s a great read filled with a delightfully infectious sense of humour.* Did you know that the bible says we can eat hares because they ‘they chew the cud’, which, of course, they don’t. If God had actually created all the animals you’d think he would know that hares don’t chew the cud.

⭐According to Jesus (or whoever wrote his script), we must love God with all our heart and mind and always be like him, who is perfect (Matthew 22:37-38, 5:48). Well, this is utter nonsense, for as this book convincingly demonstrates, the God of the Bible is impossible to love or admire, and to be like or to copy his behaviour, would be sheer madness. It was in his blog, Dwindling in Unbelief, that Steve Wells began documenting God’s killings in the Bible. There he wrote a post for each killing event and kept a running count of the number of victims as he went along. This shockingly informative book is the end result. Wells thinks such a record of God’s killings has not been done before, and says (in his introduction) it ”is a shame since God is so proud of his killings,” and quotes Deuteronomy 32: 39-42 to make his point: ”I kill… I wound… I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh” (NRSV). Such satire by the author is used throughout and is a welcome light relief considering the book’s dark subject matter. In revealing God’s killings, or this deity’s appalling crimes, the author is doing a profoundly honest service indeed. This is in sharp contrast to the strategy of Christian apologists, who continue to con us into believing God’s an wonderfully loving, merciful, and just being. Contrary to what they would have us believe, and what this book does so well, the Bible is in fact God’s worst enemy. It’s betrayal of God can only be described as horrible. As the late C. Dennis McKinsey points out: ”The God of the Bible is one of the most disreputable beings to have ever emerged from the pages of literature. The dossier of his bad acts would put any criminal to shame” (p170, The Encyclopedia of Biblical Errancy (Prometheus Books, 1995). How true! The bible’s real villain is certainly not Satan. He has been wrongly castigated by believers and made into the bible’s scapegoat. It wasn’t Satan who killed everything ”on the face of the earth” except for Noah and his family, eight people (Genesis 6-8; 1 Peter 3:20). It wasn’t Satan who killed every Egyptian’s firstborn child (Exodus 12: 29-30). It wasn’t Satan who turned Lot’s wife into ”a pillar of salt” (Genesis 19: 26) because she looked back at the place she had lived all her life. It wasn’t Satan who had a blasphemer stoned to death (Leviticus 24:10-11,23) and another for gathering sticks on the Sabbath day (Numbers 15:33-36). It wasn’t Satan who told his followers to, ”Go and attack the Amalekites! Destroy them and all their possessions. Don’t have any pity. Kill their men, women, children, and even their babies. Slaughter their cattle, sheep, camels, and donkeys”(1 Samuel 15:1-3). It wasn’t Satan who burned people to death for complaining (Numbers 11:1-2). It wasn’s Satan who killed Israelites with a plague (Numbers 11:33). Nor is it Satan who has Jesus coming back to kill the millions of non Christians, as the book of Revelation has it, and then having them tormented forever in Hell, etc. No, Satan’s not the bad guy that we’ve been lead to believe.Wells says at the start of Drunk With Blood,”If the killings described in this book actually happened, then the God of the Bible is not the kind of God that believers pretend him to be.” I couldn’t agree more! Those who worship this God do so out of indoctrination and wilful ignorance and downright fear. Certainly no one in their ‘right mind’ would want anything to do with such a loathsome, hypocritical bully. Why worship a child killer? And if Jesus is the God of the Bible, as most Christians believe, it’s him who’s the moral monster with a ‘obsessive-compulsive disorder’ to kill. Yes, Jesus! Those who would doubt that the biblical God is such a nasty character, should read Drunk With Blood. It’s a real eye-opener for those who have the courage to think.

⭐Steve Wells has delved into those areas of the Bible that the various monotheistic churchmen prefer to ignore. Indeed one of the main contentions in the book is that most of those who believe in the absolute truth of the Bible have never actually read it! Instead they are content to chirrup the mindless (but comforting!) catchphrases and sound-bytes provided to them by their religious leaders. It might help (but certainly not comfort) them to look at the other side of the coin and begin to realise that this monster they worship has always been capable of exercising a mindless and immoral brutality that would make Hitler and Genghis Khan look like sweet little girl scouts by comparison! The book casts its net wide within the Bible and includes incidents which most of us will have either ignored, glossed over, or missed completely in our reading. Even those sections we may have thought we knew well (like the story of David) have dark and nasty aspects that should demand our closer examination. Steve Wells is quite relentless in his pursuit of this demon God, so the coverage is extremely comprehensive. At times his exasperation shows through and the irony, as well as the language, can become less incisive and more repetitive; but overall it makes an enjoyable, if uncomfortable, read. Adding up the death toll on the way along is a really nice touch.

⭐A thorough description & analysis of all the killings done either directly by God or at his instigation which are recorded in the Bible, at a conservative estimate some 2.8 million souls, taken mostly from those bits of the Bible which the Pope never mentions. It’s like 158 disaster & horror movies all rolled into one sadistic blood-soaked epic. Of course, it starts with the big one, that being the Flood, in which (almost) every human, animal & plant on the planet is killed (and I don’t think that the fish got off too lightly either), as He would: “destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under Heaven, and every thing that is in the Earth shall die.”. This book can really stress you out; each turn of the page threatening to reveal a new horror, oft more dreadful & sickening than the one before. Being a pro-God book and an anti-Satan book, one would have thought that the Bible would have conscientiously recorded all of Satan’s killings as well. If it did, then they came to approximately: 10; and half of those were due to some bet with God anyway. (Maybe all the others got redacted.)

⭐Everyone, believer and non-believer alike, should have the chance to have the ‘Revelation’ of the darker side of the Lord this book gives you. It’s interesting that on the many occasions I’ve attended a church service of any denomination that this kind of stuff has never come up in the preachings from the pulpit about the God of Love. This book has opened my eyes to his dark side. Get your own bible out and read these passages. You should be astonished, if not angered that we should be expected to give grace and favour to believers of this stuff. I’m pretty certain that most believers are unaware, as was I, of the Lord’s blood lust. To those in the pulpit who should be and in all probability are aware of this stuff I can only say that I’m ashamed for you. Reading this might help you understand why we continue to have terrorist atrocities happening in the 21st century – carried out of course by the Lord’s most ardent believers.
