Description

In recent years, due primarily to the proliferation of computers, dynamical systems has again returned to its roots in applications. It is the aim of this book to provide undergraduate and beginning graduate students in mathematics or science and engineering with a modest foundation of knowledge. Equations in dimensions one and two constitute the majority of the text, and in particular it is demonstrated that the basic notion of stability and bifurcations of vector fields are easily explained for scalar autonomous equations. Further, the authors investigate the dynamics of planar autonomous equations where new dynamical behavior, such as periodic and homoclinic orbits appears.

User’s Reviews

Editorial Reviews: Review J.K. Hale, H. Kocak, and H. ButtanriDynamics and Bifurcations”This book takes the reader step by step through the vast subject of dynamical systems. Proceeding from 1 to 2 dimensions and onto higher dimensions in separate self-contained sections, the text is mathematically rigorous yet devoid of excess formalism. A refreshing balance is further achieved by the use of many excellent illustrations and a wealth of worked and unworked examples.”―MATHEMATIKA

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐In my opinion this book is superior to Strogatz for all nonlinear dynamics topics (it doesn’t cover Chaos, and I actually like Strogatz’s presentation of Chaos). Because Strogatz has become a defacto standard for teaching nonlinear dynamics, it is unavoidable, but I recommend getting Hale and Kocak to supplement your Strogatz reading. Hale and Kocak fill in all the gaps that Strogatz leaves behind, while still being rich with examples and geometric intuition. This book is extremely well written and accessible to undergraduates and graduate students alike. A must have for anyone working in dynamics or related fields. Also, they have a really cool way of “discovering” the normal forms of bifurcations which is, in my opinion, more illuminating that Strogatz’s presentation.

⭐En muy buen estado el libro

⭐This books succeeds as an introduction to Dynamics and Bifurcations. It has lot’s of great pictures and examples. The authors really did a great job in that respect. Some of the theorems could be described a bit clearer, particularly the ones about Poincare-Hopf-Andronov bifurcations.

⭐This book is very well written. But I should point out, it kind of focuses on a few parts of differential equations rather than giving a large overview. But the parts it is about are very well written.

⭐This is one of the most inspired books on the subject of dynamical systems. It has a straight argument, with a very comprehensive text and one may even find it some times poetic.Yes, I do love and recomend it!

⭐As an undergrad who was forced to take a class with a professor who contributed to this book as a grad student, all I can say is that there is a large disconnect between the text and exercises. I also found the book to be ambiguous, maybe because the farther along you go the terser it gets. It also needs more theoretical examples, not just computational ones.

⭐As a postgrad student searching for textbooks to cover all those things I learnt about dynamical systems in my undergrad studies, this one was one of my first choices. It is easy to read, which is surprising, considering it’s a maths textbook. It is systematic in its treatment of dynamical systems. The important things are easy to find, since the index is very comprehensive and the layout of the page makes formulae stand out. The many diagrams help those of us who think about dynamics geometrically. All in all, a great book, which I use on a regular basis as a reference.

⭐Delivered on time. Thank you very much. The book offers great insight on dynamical systems theory and stability theory.

⭐The book was in perfect condition!
