Description
This is the expanded notes of a course intended to introduce students specializing in mathematics to some of the central ideas of traditional economics. The book should be readily accessible to anyone with some training in university mathematics; more advanced mathematical tools are explained in the appendices. Thus this text could be used for undergraduate mathematics courses or as supplementary reading for students of mathematical economics.

⭐This is a great book, and there should be many more like this! It is just 145 pages long, but, given the rough and old typewriter style, it could very well fit even half of that number, on a modern formatting. If you have a solid mathematical background (e.g. you don’t need to be told what a matrix multiplication is), and you are interested in learning classical economics fast but not superficially, you will love it. All other books I have sampled (after much search) either they are extremely superficial, worried that any formula might kill the reader, or they spend hundreds of pages in explaining basic mathematics, or rephrasing each formula in long-winded sentences, or else discussing at length whether the utility function should be differentiable or not… This book is short, to the point and contains no faux rigor. The author does not need to show-off his mathematical skills, he simply uses math to convey his message clearly, precisely, effectively and fast. The excercises are also great.Of course it is only a brief introduction. Economics competence consists mainly in the deep knowledge of many historical cases, which are obviously totally absent here. But reading these 145 pages was really one of my best time investments.
