Description

Designed for a one semester course on electronics for physics and science majors, this text offers a comprehensive, up-to-date alternative to currently available texts by providing a modern approach to the course. It includes the mix of theory and practice that matches the typical electronics course syllabus with balanced coverage of both digital and analog electronics.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐The book is comprehensive, but lacks depth and is often confusing due to leaving out details. For instance, the description of the theory of bipolar junction transistors is absurdly hand-wavey, leaving the reader guessing as to why it is thought of as a current amplifier, and why it needs a base current at all to conduct. Most introductory students are eager to at least have a plausible story about how a BJT transistor works, before we go through the pain of modelling them. The explanations are truly lacking any explanatory power, any utility, and any connection to the subtle physics behind it. Had Griffiths or Feynman described how a transistor works, the description would be so powerful that its applications would seem immediately obvious, instead of magic.Secondly there are errors. For instance, some “resistance value R” is actually a particular resistor in a circuit, but you left guessing which one because the editors apparently missed the missing subscript (looking at equation 9.5 in this case). There are good things about the book. Most passages are written very clearly, so perhaps I am being to harsh. It is also useful the way the book is organized, going to higher levels of abstraction part-by-part, assembly-by-assembly. However the physics could use more physics.

⭐This book is terrible. We are only in chapter 2 and I’ve had to look up information on every subject thus far as the book does nothing to explain concepts. I have yet to find a solutions manual so it is impossible to know whether or not the problems have been completed correctly. I’ve been searching around for more information on converting gates to matrix and solving them. The information online is mostly beginning matrices, or in-depth info on gates. Not much in-between. The book introduces the relationship and then offers a more in depth problem with absolutely no bridge or direction. And no solution. Totally pointless.

⭐No solutions to any of the problems. The text itself isn’t bad, and it has interesting problems and lab projects, but there are no solutions to any of the problems! Frustrating!

⭐Seriously, this book is only for those who already have strong backgrounds in building circuits. If you are a beginner avoid it at all cost. Also, there are no published solution manual and answer keys so unless it is required text for a class, don’t self-teaching yourself with this.

⭐Good text, clear and concise. But, lacks full mathematical justifications and explanations to gain full understanding. Recommend as “quick and dirty” intro text before going on to a more thorough exploration of the subject.

⭐I bought “Electronics with discrete components” by E.Galvez from Amazon.com. Sincerely I was expected to receive a much more “strong” book in terms of number of pages. Otherwise 250 pages are well enough to discover and understand the whole electronic world, from analog to digital signal processing, filtering, designing and so on. Very interesting are the examples, the exercises and the Lab. project. Finally the book approach is very simple but fully, reach of tricks and easyway shortcuts to best design and understand electronic.Good book!

⭐I didn’t receive the product. Extremely disappointed since I don’t have the text book for classes that start this week.

⭐Good
