Description

From one of the greatest philosophers of the twentieth century: A collection of accessible and enlightening essays on topics from envy to intellectual rubbish. Russell, the sage non-conformist, is always meaningful, no matter what the topic or the issue. In this small book are some of his old but nonetheless remarkable observations, and some of the thoughts he expressed on his 90th birthday. Here are titles, taken at random from the Table of Contents: Psychoanalysis Takes a Look; Envy and Belief; On Male Superiority; What Social Science Can Do; Intellectual Rubbish; Don’t Be Too Certain; On Being Old.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Entertaining and clever.

⭐By my bedside – eloquently written , makes one reflect on life. For anyone you love clarity of thought and writing, this book is for thinkers.

⭐Russell was a genius, and he never fails to enlighten & provoke thinking.

⭐An exceptional book which is sadly not around anymore and easily accessible. This edition has obviously been lovingly put together.

⭐I must confess that I’m a Realist, as is the author, so this review is biased. The ideas expressed by the author are as timely today as they were when he wrote them. The book is well organized and understandable in plain to the point language. Even if you disagree with the ideas his dry humor is very entertaining.

⭐Filled with little bits of wisdom. Mostly satisfies my pessimism. Definitely helped with dinner conversations. A coffee table book, although best not read in company.
