    Description

The people we’ve come to call gnostics were passionate advocates of the view that salvation comes through knowledge and personal experience, and their passion shines through in the remarkable body of writings they produced over a period of more than a millennium and a half. Willis Barnstone and Marvin Meyer have created a translation that brings the gnostic voices to us from across the centuries with remarkable power and beauty—beginning with texts from the earliest years of Christianity—including material from the Nag Hammadi library—and continuing all the way up to expressions of gnostic wisdom found within Islam and in the Cathar movement of the Middle Ages. The twenty-one texts included here serve as a compact introduction to Gnosticism and its principal ideas—and they also provide an entrée to the pleasures of gnostic literature in general, representing, as they do, the greatest masterpieces of that tradition.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Essential Gnostic Scriptures by Barnstone and Meyer is an excellent book explaining some of the lost portions of mystic scriptures left out of The New Testament. It covers many regions of the world where divergent beliefs were considered taboo by the church. The book mentions re-incarnation, the human and divine Jesus, the human spirit in which every gnostic or person can seek illumination by finding their own inner light. All these aforementioned ideas were considered heresy by The Church, therefore these were sticken from being accepted as Gospel. Well written and a must read for all those seekers of truth. The book is divided into stories, poems, and parables. To seek the truth, one must widen his or her perception on any given matter. If you keep a open mind, then your heart will tell you if it’s true or not.

⭐But there are some things in it that just are not true such as the Aposles Creed which this book claims to have been written by each of the the twelve. the last one, number 12 was alegance to the catholic church which wasn’t in exitance during the time of the followers of Jesus. This church was created by The Ruler, Consentine who decided to put the bible together by the the regilious leaders from across the land in order to have a way of controling the people and that happened in 324 A.D. Then he structured the church rulers based on the ranking of his army such as the Bishops, etc. Then they invaded countries in the name of church and robbed and murdered in the name of the church. They chose to leave out the books that they thought would cause the people to not obey their wishes and even tried to destory them. Now they are beginning to turn up from where they were hidden in order to protect them from being burned.

⭐It reads like the Bible. I do not know what else to say. It did put me to sleep. Zzz

⭐This book is perfect for a beginer of gnostic studies who wants to have a basic understanding. It helps you avoid sifting through a 700 page book all the time. However, I would also recommend “The Gnostic Bible” for the serious student or spiritual seeker.
