⭐I used this book as a Natural Philosophy student at Glasgow University around 1964. I still have the copy I used then (Copyright 1958). It is hard copy with 782 pages. It’s an excellent review of the science of physics with an historical perspective. It traces the evolution of experimentation and theory from the ancient Greeks to contemporary (1958) physics. It includes many equations but avoids the use of calculus. I find it very approachable and readable. It gets as far as the liquid-drop and shell models of the nucleus but there, obviously, it stops.By the way the illustration is of the wrong book!
