Description

The most non-trivial of the established microscopic theories of physics is QCD: the theory of the strong interaction. A critical link between theory and experiment is provided by the methods of perturbative QCD, notably the well-known factorization theorems. Giving an accurate account of the concepts, theorems and their justification, this book is a systematic treatment of perturbative QCD. As well as giving a mathematical treatment, the book relates the concepts to experimental data, giving strong motivations for the methods. It also examines in detail transverse-momentum-dependent parton densities, an increasingly important subject not normally treated in other books. Ideal for graduate students starting their work in high-energy physics, it will also interest experienced researchers wanting a clear account of the subject.

⭐The very foundations of most of the applications of PQCD to particle physics is factorization theorem. The ordinary factorization theorem is set up in early 1980s, and later successful interplay between theory and experiments place QCD from the candidate for strong interaction to the precision theory of strong interaction. With the extension of observables in experiments, and progress in QCD theory, more powerful factorization theorem, say TMD and more general GPD factorization theorem, arise as tools to analyze more recent experimental data. The newly developed TMDs and GPDs are far from being perfect, and the ambiguities and disagreements pose challenge the application. The book Foundations of Perturbative QCD serve as a large boost to the current efforts to understand TMDs and QCD. The book is more than a review of old materials, but also contain the most recent research results by the author. The author is a distinguished first-line researcher in the field of QCD, and authority scientist in QCD factorization theorems. He reviewed the development of fundamental theorems of QCD, and furthur present outcome of his new research, say, the new definition of transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (TMDs) and therefore simplified TMD factorization theorem. I believe that this book will serve as an milestone of the development of QCD.

⭐The book is very nice. New and the packaging protects the book very well.

⭐This book is a must read for anyone aspiring to work seriously in research at the foundational level of perturbative quantum chromodynamics. The book addresses crucial foundational mathematical and logical issues that are skipped by most introductions to pQCD. Highly rigorous and thorough, it even contains original work in the last few chapters. The book is good for a graduate course on QCD, although because of the high level of detail it should probably be supplemented with less formal introductions to the subject.
